Apple Bubble-Up Bake

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 apples, peeled & sliced into wedges
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or cider

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 cup apple juice or cider
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp reserved apple drippings from filling

Biscuit Balls

  • 1 tube large refrigerated biscuits I used Pillsbury Grands
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  2. Melt butter in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add cinnamon & apples, cook for 2-3 minutes. Add apple juice & simmer about 5 more minutes, until apples have softened. Remove apples to a 13" X 9" baking dish, reserving 2 tbsp of the drippings.

Caramel Sauce

  1. Melt stick of butter in medium saucepan. Add flour & whisk to form a paste. Then add apple juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, & the drippings from the apple filling. Stir & bring to a simmer, cooking about 3-4 minutes until it forms a dark brown sauce thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Cinnamon-Sugar Biscuits

  1. Cut biscuits into quarters & roll them into little balls. Combine with cinnamon & sugar, coating them evenly.

Finish

  1. Drop the biscuit balls onto the apple filling in the baking dish. Pour the caramel sauce on top, lightly stirring to mix. Bake 20-25 minutes until the biscuits have baked to a puffy golden brown.
