Universal Yums Subscription Box -Thailand
Universal Yums is a food subscription box that sends sweet and savory snacks and candies, all from a different country every month, right to your door. Every box includes a 12+ page interactive Travel Guide to steer your adventure – including trivia, games, recipes, and culture. The snack items chosen for that country’s box are tastes related to that country’s cuisine and culture, with explanations included in the illustrated guidebook.
How It Works
YUM Box 5-7 snacks & 12 page booklet – $13.75/month
YUM YUM Box 10-12 snacks & 16 page booklet with bonus content – $22.92/month
SUPER YUM Box 18-20 snacks & 16 page booklet with bonus content – $35.75/month
Boxes ship on the 15th of each month and shipping is free in the USA. You can cancel at any time or, if you have a month-to-month subscription, you can skip a month if needed. PLUS you can purchase individual items from past boxes in their YUM shop!
The Homespun Chics paid for this subscription box. All opinions are 100% our own.
Each box comes with a booklet that shares a little history about the country we are visiting that month and provides a nifty guide for the snackable journey we are about to take!
Additionally, there’s the Yum Scoreboard where we keep track of our snack ratings. I love this idea!! There is also a sidebar that shows a few of the rejects that didn’t make it into the box, as well as an option to vote on an upcoming box! Cool!
Z Roll Farm Fried Shrimp & Salad Cream | I am allergic to shrimp, so I stayed far away from this one! I didn’t grab a picture of it out of the wrapper, but it’s one long potato stick thing wrapped in seaweed! Jonathan was most excited to taste it but decided it was really just okay. Gabe (who normally loves seaweed) thought it was gross! Haha!
Next were the little candies – Gabe was the MOST excited to eat candy in the middle of the day. “It’s not even Halloween yet!!”
Hartbeat Pineapple | pineapple hard candy with salt center. It sounds gross, but it’s actually pretty good! Jonathan thought they were alright, but could do without the salt. Gabe said he LOVED the outside but hated the salty surprise on the inside, so pretty much the same as Jonathan.
Orchard Banana Chews | Made with real steamed bananas! These candies have the consistency of a toffee but taste exactly like very ripe bananas. It’s the strangest sensation, but they’re really good! Jonathan loved these the most of all the candy. He even denied Gabe the last one, lol!
Calipzo Corn Flavoured Candy | Corn candy… Corn. Candy. What? I know I said that eating a banana chew was a strange sensation but it was nothing compared to eating a piece of sweet candy that tastes exactly like corn on the cob. Not candy corn, real corn. But sweet. And chewy. And corny. This one was questionable.
Hartbeat Lime Gummy | Now THESE are delicious! Gabe and I fought over the bag of these tasty gummies. They’re thin strips of real lime gummy candy, about the size of a piece of gum, with a light dusting of salt on top. Jonathan thought they were nasty, but Gabe and I couldn’t get enough. Yum!
Sticky Rice with Coconut Cream & Mango | I am mildly allergic to mango (I know, right?), so I left this to the boys to taste as well. I followed the recommendation and microwaved it for 15 seconds before serving it. Jonathan thought it was too dense and not sweet enough to be good. Gabe initially thought it was tasty but then politely asked if he could please throw it away, lol. Needless to say, it didn’t rank high on the list.
Suthera Banana Coconut Roll | YUM!!! Even Jamie agreed that this is one tasty treat! It reminds me of those Pirouette cookies, except with a lovely banana coconut flavor. Lovely, but super crumbly cookies – definitely should be eaten whole, or at least held over a plate!
Tasto Salt & Sour Chips | These chips are like a milder version of our salt & vinegar chips, only with lemon instead of vinegar. They weren’t bad! The chips were slightly thicker than Lays, but not as thick as kettle chips. We all agreed they were pretty good, but nothing to write home about.
Tasto Sweet & Spicy Chips | These are sweet garlic wheat crisps that look like a larger version of Crispex cereal, lol! They were more sweet than spicy and had a great crunch! Jamie LOVED them; I’d say they were his favorite snacks out of everything!
Tasto Devil Chips | These are Thai chili pepper potato chips – as in, ridged potato chips coated in chili pepper powder with actual dried chilis inside the bag… like, to eat… what?! No. Jonathan and Gabe braved the bag and tried just the chips (without the dried chilis). They weren’t too spicy that way, but the bag was tossed without another chip consumed. I caught Gabe chugging a bottle of water afterward though, lol.
Glendee Coconut Chips Sea Salt & Caramel | YUM!!! Oh coconut chips are delicious on their own, but these had the perfect balance of caramel flavor plus a little bit of salt. They were delicately crunchy and had that almost burnt-sugar taste. Super addictive and a win for the whole family! Well, all except Jamie. He threw them on the ground for the dog to eat. Ugh.
Chocky Wafer Shibuya Honey Toasted Flavour Cream | These cookie things remind me of those vanilla wafers I used to get after church. Do you remember those? They were kind of orange-looking without much flavor and when you bit into them, you got a million crumbs all over your clothes! Ring any bells? Anyway, these have the same consistency, but are much tastier. It says they are flavored like Japanese honey toast, but they taste a lot like maple syrup to me. Gabe said these were his absolute favorites!
We decided to rank the snacks from best to worst. Notice how the devil chips are marked N/A? It took a dare for Jonathan and Gabe to try them (well after we tried the rest of the snacks). Haha! This was a REALLY fun box and I am so glad our first month was Thailand! Overall we enjoyed the experience and only had a few duds that we could live without.
If you really love snacks and are open to trying new things, I think the Universal Yums subscription is a fantastic option, especially with the coronavirus keeping families indoors more. The second-tier Yum Yum Box was perfect for our family of 3.5 with snacks to spare!
We are really looking forward to next month. Next time, Gabe wants to take our Yum Yum Box over to Mom & Dad’s house to see what they think too! What do you think of the Thailand box? Would you try the Devil Chips??
Chocky Wafer Shibuya Honey Toasted Flavour Cream are the ones that stand out for me.. What a fun subscription box!
This looks like a fun subscription box .
