Trader Joe’s 2019 Advent Calendar For Cats

Trader Joe’s always has such cool things so I just had to bring home the Trader Joe’s 2019 Advent Calendar for Cats when I found it in our local store. Not only does it have such cute and perfectly cat-ish kitty “quotes” on the doors, but the treats themselves are made with Atlantic salmon and seaweed. What cat could resist that combo? The price was $5.99, a mere pittance for providing our humble kitties with daily yummies for 25 whole days!

The doors to the calendar don’t have the tabs to help open the perforations (a situation on most of our Advent calendars this year), but I am trained by now to just use a knife. It has the days numbered consecutively across the box, no searching for the day amidst the illustrations, but since you are opening up the box for your kitty you need to be quick about it anyhow!

All of the day’s boxes have multiple treats in individually packaged bags so they stay fresh. And so that hopefully you won’t have your cat chewing through the box to get to more yummies!

When you finally get to Christmas Day, the last box in the Advent calendar, your kitty will get a really great surprise of a whole handful of yummy treats instead of just a couple. Trader Joe’s press release described Day 25’s surprise as being one large fish-shaped treat but apparently they changed their minds to make the big day’s gift more cat-friendly.

Since there are several treats in each bag and a whole bunch of treats on Christmas, you really do get a lot of cat happiness for your purchase price at 24 cents for each day’s bag of yummies.

The individually packaged treats were in shapes of stars, fish, circles, and chunks. Our treats were a bit hard and the sizes were too large for my cats, the delicate souls they think they are even though our biggest boy weighs in at 20 lbs. The treats were best received after I used scissors to cut each piece into thirds or fourths. I try to be the best cat servant I can be, after all! The cats did enjoy their treats and I will probably purchase this calendar again next year if I get the opportunity.
