Top 5 Best Dog Toys for Goldendoodles
Raising a goldendoodle from a small puppy has been such a rewarding experience for our family but we definitely had our fair share of learning experiences with such a big dog! Waffles is 10 months old this month and has quadrupled in size since we first got him. He lost all of his baby teeth and has become a pretty heavy chewer.
Keeping Waffles entertained and distracted with good chew toys has been a real struggle. He manages to destroy even the most durable toys and takes great pleasure in . Having invested a great deal of time and money on toys, I’ve managed to come up with my list of the top 5 best dog toys for goldendoodles, according to Waffles.
The toys included in this list have all survived at least a month in our house. Each toy has been heavily tested by Waffles through rigorous chewing and playing.
Note: I intentionally did not include any “throw away” plush toys in this list. I give little plushies to Waffles as special rewards after he gets groomed or if he does well on the leash out in public… but these inexpensive toys are short-lived and I have to monitor him until the toy is “dead” to make sure he doesn’t accidentally eat the small plastic squeaker inside.
No. 5 | Classic KONG (Medium)
Weighing in at number 5 is the Classic KONG. Growing up, our dogs always had a KONG toy to chew on. Though Waffles is a heavy chewer, the medium classic KONG is holding up well. His favorite game is to pick up the toy in his mouth and toss it on the ground to watch it bounce unpredictably. I highly recommend this toy to any dog owner – it comes in three different sizes and there’s even an EXTREME version for super aggressive chewers!
No. 4 | JW Hol-ee Roller Ball
Waffles tends to chew up and lose all of his tennis balls so I was looking for a good alternative. I searched Chewy.com to find reviews of more durable balls and found this one! Fortunately, my local Target had them in stock so I grabbed one for the pup. He LOVES this ball! It’s perfect for tugging on and has a soft bounce when thrown so it won’t break anything while playing fetch in the house. This is a great, inexpensive find that has outlasted half a dozen other balls at this point.
No. 3 | Nylabone Dental Dinosaur Chew
Waffles loves edible chews but I wanted him to have something that was longer lasting for him to chew on. I went to SparkysSpots.com to research durable chew toys and found that this dinosaur chew scored an 8/10 on their site! I love Nylabone but never realized they had such cute dinosaur toys available! We really lucked out and found this brontosaurus at Marshall’s for only $4.99. Waffles absolutely adores this chew toy and it’s really starting to show. It’s on the smaller side but that doesn’t seem to bother him at all. We will definitely purchase another one once this toy gets too destroyed to keep.
No. 2 | BARK Blowfish Dog Toy
Did you know BarkBox sold toys separate from their subscription box? I didn’t realize this until I started seeing all these amazing toys pop up in Target! I love their innovative dog toys. Not all are what they appear on the outside. The blowfish toy looks and feels plush on the outside, but once your dog tears through the outer cover, a spiky blue ball is revealed with ZERO fluff filling! It took Waffles several months to realize that he could break through the cover. Surprisingly enough, he seems to enjoy the blue ball better than he did the blowfish and plays with it almost every day.
No. 1 | Nylabone Dura Chew Barbell
Finally, we come to the best of the best. Waffles’ number one pick of his toys is this Nylabone Dura Chew Barbell toy. I have absolutely no idea why he is so obsessed, but he actually got this as a hand-me-down from his Uncle Rocket (mom’s border collie). Waffles literally takes this toy everywhere with him. He carries it from room to room and chews on it when ever he lays down. This is his all time favorite toy and fortunately for us, is relatively inexpensive! I believe mom purchased this one from Chewy.com, but we will re-order it on Amazon.com for the same price plus free 2-day shipping because of our Prime membership. 🙂
We hope you enjoyed our Top 5 Best Dog Toys for Goldendoodles. Let us know in the comments below if you have any additional recommendations or if any of these toys are your dog’s favorites too! 🙂
This is a good list for my Red bone coon hound. She chews up everything in my yard.
My dog Rocky would like the Bark Blowfish Toy. He likes to cuddle with his stuffed animals. I would like to cuddle with the adorable goldendoodle.
This is nice. These all look like things my Sandee would want to play with too
