January 2016 – Box of Spontaneous Joy
I was so happy to see this box of New Years goodies on my doorstep! We have been so busy this December and have had no time to plan a proper celebration for ringing in the new year. I had high (a.k.a. unrealistic) expectations to throw a big New Year’s Eve party like we did three years ago… What actually happened? Oh, you know, we played with fire, made a bunch of noise, blasted confetti all over the ground, ate sweets, and went to bed by 9:30 p.m. We had so much fun all thanks to TinselBox!
I couldn’t wait to see what TinselBox included to help us celebrate! The tissue paper is so pretty!
First peek in the box. This month’s print is really sweet!
The information card on the reverse lists all of the items included in the box with a brief description. This month forgoes the beautiful pictures that were featured on last month’s card, but I think I prefer the written details over the pictures.
StephShivesStudio Fringe Horns (Gold, Rose Gold) – Value: $3.80
These noise makers are so cute and make really fun honking sounds when you blow into them. Little G and I have been playing with these all month long. We each would take turns sneaking into the next room to blow the horn. The other person would then run into the room looking for where the sound came from, pretending they don’t see the person who blew the horn. I know, you are super jealous and would like to play with my seriously awesome, clever toddler too. Just remember, it’s always good to secure your fringe horn for yourself… toddler slobber is pretty gross.
TOPS Malibu 4″ Star Sparkler Card (New Year) – Value: $4.50
I love this cute star sparkler! As much as I would have LOVED to light this up, Little G would have most certainly stuck his hand out to grab it. We will be saving this sparkler to use once he is a little older. An instructional sheet was also included with the sparkler, which is much appreciated!
TOPS Malibu Gold Paper Crowns (Set of 8) – Value: $5.50
These crowns come folded up and can be used as place holders, party favors, or just opened up to be worn right away! These are completely fitting for NYE celebrations, however Little G has a complete aversion to hats and pitched the biggest fit until I put them away. Like, completely away. In a drawer. In a different room. SO these will be stored until next NYE when he’s 3 1/2 and hopefully more open to new things. 🙂
TOPS Malibu Wish Paper (Set of 10) – Value: $7.50
We had so much fun doing the wish papers! Jonathan was skeptical about whether these actually worked, so we tried them out after dinner!
We crinkled the paper into a ball first and then formed it into a thin cylinder, as instructed. Once the paper was ignited, it took only a few seconds for the entire cylinder to burn up and then…
The ash floated up to the ceiling (like magic) and gently lowered right into Jonathan’s hand! How fun!!! I told him to make a wish before he caught the ash, so we shall see if his wish comes true!
Fortunately Yours New Years Fortune Cookies (Qty 2) – Value: $2.08
How cute are these little fortune cookies?? The cookies are made using real vanilla, and are then hand-dipped in white chocolate, dusted with beautiful metallic sprinkles, and topped with sweet little sugar decorations! Beautiful and delicious. The fortunes are also really fun!
Exclusive TinselBox Confetti Popper – Value: $5.00?
My husband said he would never allow this to happen in our house for so many reasons… five cats, one toddler, one dog, a fish tank, glittery strands of confetti… So naturally, I gave him my sad, puppy dog eyes and we popped the confetti anyway! (He loves me.)
We have never used a confetti popper before, so we read the instructions on the card. It states to take off the top before quickly pushing up on the stem. We tried that a couple of times, which was basically us spilling confetti all over the table and hurling confetti toward the ground. Jonathan said we should keep the lid on for the pressure to build up so we gathered as much confetti off the floor as we could and tried once more…
Voila! It worked!
Little G was shrieking with joy, Jonathan was having a nervous breakdown over all the glittery confetti pieces, while I was trying to make sure I got some semblance of a photo before the vacuuming commenced.
It’s not that bad, right?
Time to clean up! Little G is using his pretend Dyson to help daddy!
My Thoughts
January 2015 TinselBox (Spontaneous Joy) Total Value: $28.38
For a family that was incredibly ill-prepared to do New Year’s celebrations, I’d say we had an incredibly satisfying “party” at the house! Little G was so excited that we were making a huge mess and loud noises. I’m pretty sure he thinks we’ve lost our marbles, first by bringing a giant tree into our house then by throwing a bunch of glittery confetti all over the floor… This month’s box supplied us with fun activities and party favors to help celebrate the holiday, which is considerably different than last month, which was more about decorating for the season.
I love the diversity of products from one month to the next, and feel there is a great value in the hand-curated items selected for the holiday.
Have you ordered your February box yet? The theme is “Love Letters” and is fitting for anyone who loves pretty things.
