Tinselbox – Earth Day 2016
Housekeeping note: I’m changing the way I reference my Tinselbox monthly boxes going forward. For example, instead of calling this month’s box the “April 2016 Tinselbox,” I have switched to naming it after the holiday being celebrated: “Tinselbox Earth Day 2016”. I hope this makes sense to you, because I was confusing myself to bits!
Alright, in case you were wondering, Easter was TOO much fun with Little G! I have Tinselbox to thank for a lot of it and am so happy to have the Tinselblog as a reference any time I need some brain food for my celebrations! We have been non-stop crazy busy ever since, but I’m looking forward to being outside in this gorgeous spring weather and getting my hands dirty in the soil. There is not much I can do on the small amount of land we have in the city, but I am doing my best to attract the bees and butterflies to our area by creating a mini orchard in the backyard, planting herbs in my raised garden bed, and spreading wildflower seeds in my flowerbeds!
Earth Day is a wonderful holiday and I am elated that Tinselbox has curated a box of goodies to help us celebrate the day!

First peek in the Earth Day box and I spy something really pretty and turquoise!
Tinselbox now includes a full-color booklet with vivid illustrations, item descriptions, and inspiration for craft ideas! This month’s booklet is adorned with a really cool watercolor world.
The first page lists and describes the items in the box. Tinselbox has also created a Featured Artist page which tells subscribers a little more about a company / person behind one of the products.
This month featured Cat Coquillette, a designer and illustrator based out of Kansas City. I love her style and think I could get in a lot of trouble if I spent too much time exploring her Etsy shop!
There’s a two-page spread on the history of Earth Day with great photos!
We also got some background on the history of the Three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) as well as instructions for making recycled magazine coasters!
The back of the booklet includes information on two of the featured companies in this month’s box, Lovewild Design and Attic Journals.
Lovewild Design Die Cut Seeds (7 count) – Value: $3.50
Our seed paper is made using only recycled post consumer pulp and some recycled cotton. Earth pigments are added for color instead of dye. Each coin is printed on an antique letterpress in Brooklyn, NY. – Lovewild Design
I have never seen letterpress seed coins before! This is such a cool concept from a beautiful, sustainable stationery and gift company. I received three different types of seeds; white is tomato, blue is wildflower, and green is mint.
Starter Pots & Stakes – Value: $2.00?
I really love that Tinselbox included a few starter pots and stakes for the seed coins. These are perfect for subscribers that do not have supplies to start their own seeds. I personally have more stakes and pots than I have seed, but am always glad to have more. The supplies never go bad and are typically one-time uses. Hooray!
I’m starting some mint and wildflowers here in the pots provided and will be gifting the other seed coins to my father-in-law to plant in his massive garden! 🙂 Sharing is caring.
Attic Journals Poker Card Notepad – Value: $4.00
I love the idea of repurposing discarded poker cards and turning them into mini notepads! The notepad has about 75-100 blank pages to use and is held together with wire binding. I really love the look of the casino cards and wonder about all of the stories these cards have witnessed. Who do you think won the game?
I have more notepads than I need right now, so I’ve decided I’m going to go all-out now and make my father-in-law a mega Earth Day gift package using some of the items I’ve received in my Tinselbox along with other cute planty-things I have been hoarding.
Earth Day Card – Value: $2.50?
Eeep! Look at this card! The sun and earth are playing together with a puffy white heart-shaped cloud! The card is blank inside and will be *perfect* for my newly imagined Earth Day present for my father-in-law. I know this will make him smile, especially when I sign it “Love, your favorite daughter-in-law.“
KIND Bar (Dark Chocolate Chunk) – Value: $1.50
KIND Bars are a perfectly sweet, healthy snack after a run or when you have the afternoon-work-munchies. I really like the dark chocolate chunk variety (it is delicious with coffee) and am glad I have this to stick in my purse for a quick snack.
Cat Coquillette “Treat Yo Self” Tote – Value: $15.00
This is such a CUTE and functional tote. I love the style, colors and shiny gold lettering! This is a great tote for bringing to the grocery store or using as a gift bag for presents. Cat Coquillette has beautiful designs and prints available in her Etsy shop, including my newest obsession called “Hedgehog Lovers” Anyone is welcome to gift this to me at any time… 🙂
My Thoughts
Tinselbox Earth Day 2016 Total Value: $28.50
This month’s Tinselbox was perfect for celebrating Earth Day! I felt the curation was on point with the reason behind the holiday and am so happy I can share my bounty with my father-in-law, who has the greenest thumb I have ever seen. My favorite item is either the bag of hand-pressed seed coins or the beautiful “Treat Yo Self” tote. Spring is definitely in the air here in the Appalachian mountains and the weather has finally warmed up enough to get outside and start planting!
