September 2016 My Texas Market Review
My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-6 carefully selected products from Texas farmers’ markets and local businesses. The small-batch artisan items fit a monthly theme and could be anything from foods, snacks, teas, candles, beauty products, crafts or any other thing you might find in a Texas farmers’ market. Their purpose is to expose customers to new products and companies while supporting local artisan businesses. Subscription costs are:
1 month – $35
3 months – $100
6 months – $195
Subscription prices do not include shipping or any applicable taxes. They do promise that the value of each box will be at least $35 -$40 but to not expect that they will send a hugely underpriced box of items. You can cancel at any time or just skip a month if you wish. And if you want to purchase more of something or add to your box, they have an online market with lots of things to choose from.

The theme of the September 2016 My Texas Market box is “Back to School.”
“This box includes a fun mix of local goodies for studying and snack time, for fueling busy mornings and de-stressing from long days.”
Fall brings a change in seasons and exciting promises as we all approach a new school year, new fall fashions and the anticipation of the upcoming holiday season! The September 2016 My Texas Market subscription box has lots of items created by Texas businesses to nourish you and warm your tummy, keep you feeling clean and revitalized, and make you feel great as you embrace the upcoming season! As always, everything in the box was well packed and padded with no breakage. The product information card has lots of great information about each item curated for the box and the Texas business that produced each one.
Whole Note Gluten-Free Baking Mix – Create-A-Muffin Mix 14 oz ($6.35)
This is a gluten-free baking mix that doesn’t contain wheat but does contain 7 whole grains, so it is nutritious as well as easy on the digestive tract! You can add fruit or other goodies to make it whatever kind of muffin you are craving, or you can just bake them as-is and have a vanilla muffin. Eggs, milk, and oil are the only things you need to fix your own muffins, plus this mix is great as a base for a quick bread.
Sasha’s Hand Poured Bath and Body – Hand Sanitizer Spray, Lavender 2 oz ($6.34)
This is a lavender scented hand sanitizer in a pump spray bottle, mostly alcohol but also lavender essential oil and aloe. Good to have on hand for the upcoming cold and flu season plus it smells really nice!
Sweet Thyme Designs – Vintage Flatware Bookmark ($16.92)
This cute bookmark comes from an Austin based Etsy shop business. Each piece is hand stamped on old flatware found in Austin area vintage shops and each piece is unique. I tend toward e-books these days but I’m sure I can put this little gem to work in my kitchen with my recipe books!
Kitchun No-Grain-Ola – Apple and Cocoa 2 oz each ($7.50)
These are 2 flavors of grain-free granola in resealable pouches that can stay fresh and go with you throughout your day to keep you fed and healthy. They are great for most dietary requirements – Vegan and Paleo friendly, gluten-free, dairy free, no refined sugars, and non-GMO. Plus they taste really good and come in more than just these 2 flavors.
Sam Wish – Goddess of the Sea Bath Soak 4 oz ($10)
This bottle of bath soap is as pretty as it smells! It is made with sea salt and spirulina with bits of cedar, arborvitae and calendula throughout. I’m not sure I can stand to use it up! The calendula flowers float on top of the water and the spirulina turns the water an aqua color – all I need are some candles and a glass of wine and I’ll spend the afternoon in the tub!
The retail value of the September 2016 My Texas Market box came to $47.11 this month, a really good month for them and full of items expertly curated to fit the theme! I loved everything in this box but my favorites were the granola and the delicious bath soak! And to make this box even more special for me, I opened it and took my photos right in Austin!!

Makes me homesick for the 2 years I lived in Texas. Some fun stuff.
I really like this kind of local business-themed box – you can get a feel for the area if a visit isn’t possible.
