Hanbox Preview Box
I was recently contacted by a lovely new Korean subscription box company called Hanbox to see if I would review a “preview” box for them. Of course I said YES!! The Hanbox I received contains an assortment of products similar to the variety that will be included in the bi-monthly boxes. I was thrilled to receive a Korean subscription box with items that are curated and shipped from Korea!
What is Hanbox?
The name, Hanbox, is borrowed from Korea’s traditional dress, the hanbok. The bi-monthly box contains items like beauty products, stationery, decorations, fashion accessories, snacks, art, and more. Any cosmetics included in the boxes will be cruelty-free in Korea where they are purchased. Korea is leading the way to make all their cosmetics cruelty free by 2018, so when that happens, Hanbox will be able to expand their product lines!
Co-founded by Crystal (in Seoul) and Gina (in Portland), these ladies do their best to find only products made in Korea but sometimes the items are made elsewhere. In those instances, they buy items that Koreans love and are popular in Seoul so that the items still reflect that amazing Korean style.
The Cost – $19.99 every two months (free shipping in North America)
Boxes are bi-monthly – Order within the first three weeks of the month to receive the current month’s box. If you order on the last week of the month, you will receive the next month’s box.
Example: The July/August box will be shipping through the month of August. Sign up by the third week of August to receive the inaugural box. If you wait to sign up in the last week of August or later, you will receive the September/October box!
A box in a box! 🙂 The actual Hanbox was wrapped carefully in packing paper and was snugly placed inside the shipping box. I LOVE the Hanbox logo!!
First peek and I am SUPER excited to see my own Hanbox sticker sitting on top!
Here are all of the items out of the box! I adore the pastel pink and purple tissue and was excited to open everything! Also included was a small information sheet listing the items with brief descriptions.
Scratch Notebook
This flip-up, spiral bound notebook contains 12 scratch-off pages. I remember making these in elementary art class! Each cardboard page is one-sided with bright rainbow colors underneath a matte-black coating (feels like black chalkboard paint).
The wooden “pen” has a pointy tip on one side and a flat chisel tip on the opposite side. I was impressed by how smoothly the black coating scratched off without chipping. Don’t knock my art skills… I did that freehand, ok? 🙂 I am looking forward to bringing this out on rainy days with Little G!
Pencil Toppers
I had no idea what I was looking at for a while, but oh my gosh these are cute! This is a set of eight glittery plastic pencil toppers that appear to serve no purpose other than to look adorable.
Of course I had to try one out! The pencil topper fit snugly on the end of a standard #2 wooden pencil though it did seem to stick up a bit. Inside the cap is the teeny tiniest little eraser I have ever beheld!
Petit Emoji Stickers
These stickers crack me UP! This is a single sheet of 112 clear emoji stickers. I love all of the silly facial expressions and think they’d look great on notes to friends or calendar reminders!
Kumhong Diary Stickers
This is a set of fun “diary” stickers that portray this little red-haired girl going through all sorts of emotions and activities. What I gather is that she loves shopping, opening mail, whistling, steeping puppies in green tea, and being altogether trendy and fashionable. She detests working out to lose weight, needs an anger management course or two, and has some weird ban against pink polkadot purses. She kind of scares me a little…..
Mini Highlighters
Eeep! More cute things! This is a four-piece set of mini highlighters that come in yellow, orange, pink, and blue. Each highlighter is about the size of my thumb and can be stacked up together or even used as individual pencil toppers!
These tiny highlighters are chisel-tipped and write very brightly. I’m really impressed, actually. I use highlighters a lot at my job and am going to have a ton of fun with these!
DIY Color Postcard
I LOVE this postcard! The design reminds me of Scandinavian contemporary art and the patterns repeat just enough to create uniformity across the card. It took me about 30 minutes to color the entire postcard and I absolutely love how it turned out! (See some of the finished postcard HERE.) I wish I had an entire coloring book filled with these designs!
Aries Socks
This is a pair of women’s socks stated as “free size”. The little doggy faces are super cute and the socks feel like they’re a cotton-spandex-poly blend. Mom is obsessed with socks (and dogs), so these are going to be the perfect gift for her! I’m glad to see a clothing item in the box!
Polka Dot Headband
I don’t wear headbands much, but this looks like a really cute accessory! The headband contains a very malleable thin wire inside the cloth that can be twisted or tied to complete any look.
Scheduler
Aww! Cute little strawberry faces! I have seen these spiral bound weekly schedulers floating around the internet and think they’re a great idea. This is a compact undated scheduler that can be used for appointment reminders and notes.
I love how you can write in the dates so you can start using it at any time of the year! The back of every page is left blank for notes and doodles! (This would be a great place to use some of those stickers!)
Beyond Hair Mask
This is a highly concentrated hair treatment and hair cap that contains extracts from açaí berries. The dual-phase intensive care hair mask repairs hair damaged by external stimuli and frequent hair styling. It delivers all-natural nutrients to each strand of dull, lifeless hair to make it silky, shiny, and vibrant.
This is a cruelty-free hair mask that comes in two parts. After shampooing, you apply the concentrated hair treatment to towel-dried hair and then put on the essence-containing hair cap. Leave all that on your head for 10-15 minutes before removing the cap and rinsing your hair.
Have you ever used a hair mask before?? My hair rarely gets any attention from me — I do not style, blow dry, curl, or spray my hair, so this Damage Therapy hair cap is probably not meant for me. I really want to know how it works, so we will be offering this to one of you in a future giveaway! You just have to promise to tell us how you like it!!
0.4mm Ball Pen
I received this retractable ballpoint pen too, though it was not listed on my info sheet! It features a super cute white bear with the words “Be joyful always” written in English and possibly also in Korean.
It writes really well for a ballpoint pen and has an extremely fine point. I have a serious pen addiction so this will be going in my arsenal for using at work. Retractable pens are the best for work, by the way… they’re great stress relievers!
My Thoughts
I am SO impressed with this preview box! Everything was so cute and I loved the variety of items offered. My favorite item has to be the color postcard, followed closely in second by the mini highlighters! Though this is a box for all ages, I received a collection that would be perfect for younger ladies. My high-school self would be flipping out over all of this bounty! I can’t believe that Hanbox delivers such a great value of true Korean items for only $19.99 per box!! LOVE IT!
I am looking forward to seeing Hanbox grow and hope that all of the bi-monthly subscriber boxes are as awesome as this one!
xo
