Moustache Stationery December 2015 Review
Moustache Stationery is a monthly stationery subscription box. Each month has a different theme and includes paper products, writing utensils and more. Boxes ship worldwide and typically ship toward the end of the month. The cost is $39.95 per month and auto-renews.
The Homespun Chics paid for this subscription. All opinions are 100% our own.
December 2015 Moustache Stationery Box
Theme: New Year? (This month’s box did not contain a theme card!)
The Cost: $39.95 with free shipping in the US
The mission statement changed on their website this month!
“We constantly are buying and testing new high end stationery and are excited to be taking Moustache Stationery to the next level. We not only want to provide amazing stationery products from independent producers, but also beautiful custom designs specific to Moustache Stationery. We will be providing specialty stocks, foiling, embossing, debossing and many other essential items you didn’t even know you needed.” – Moustache Stationery
I received my December box just after Christmas and was eager to see what was inside. The package shipped to me from Canada and was much larger than the box I received last month. I was not overly excited with November’s curation, but am always willing to give a subscription box more than one month to “woo” me!
First peek into the box and I see moustaches!
Moustache Stationery Custom Tabletop Calendar – Value: $5.00?
Though this month’s box did not come with an established “theme” card, it’s very evident that it is all about getting ready for the new year!
I like the simplistic design of this compact tabletop calendar and have already taken it into work to display on my desk. This couldn’t have come at a better time, as I was about to place my office supply order to buy a new 2016 desk calendar!
Moustache Stationery New Year’s Resolution Notepad – Value: $4.00?
This little notepad is intended to be used daily to jot down goals and then assess how you did each day through the first month of 2016. The notepad is printed on 100% recycled paper and is small enough to fit in a purse or back pocket. Unfortunately, I do not have the time or desire to write down daily New Year’s goals, so this item was a bust for me. I do appreciate the time and energy that Moustache Stationery put into creating this custom notepad though!
Word. Polygon Notebooks (Set of 3) – Value: $9.99
I love Word. notebooks and am extremely happy to receive a set of three in this month’s box! These small notebooks are perfect for jotting down quick notes, phone numbers, or to keep as a journal. I love the design and colors in this set! Jonathan really likes them too, so I will be a good wife and share the bounty. 🙂
Staedtler Norica HB #2 Latex Free Pencils (12 pack) – Value: $5.49
Staedtler makes fineliners that have been my go-to pens since college, so I was excited to see this brand included. The Norica pencils are made with basswood as opposed to incense-cedar. Writing feels smooth and the latex-free eraser works really well. I wish I had a need for more pencils, but right now I only write in pencil when reconciling monthly bank statements and making quick GL coding notes. I will be taking these in to work and will make the most of them!
Moustache Stationery Assorted Notecards (Set of 6) – Value: $15.00?
I was not anticipating quite so many self-branded items to be included in such a high-dollar box, but I guess this is the change that comes with Moustache Stationery’s new mission statement. After seeing these in my box, I wondered just how many moustache cards I could send to my brother without it being weird. The face of every card is identical, but the messages inside vary with really fun fonts! These are still very nice quality cards and I’m sure I can (and will) find a use for all of them.
Tombow Fude Brush Pen (Soft) – Value: $5.98
This is one of those items that reminds me why I love subscription boxes. My mom gave me two great books for Christmas on hand-lettering and I have been meaning to pick up some new pens so I could practice. Of course I haven’t gotten around to it. This Tombow pen is great for beginners since it has the feel of a felt pen with the flexibility of a brush pen. I would show a picture of my doodles, but they’re terribly embarrassing so just trust me here. This is a great pen to try your hand at brush calligraphy. The pigment is really black and so far the ink has not bled through. I’m having a lot of fun with this pen!
Moustache Stationery Stickers (4 pack) – Value: $2.00?
Again with the branding! I wasn’t sure whether these stickers are included as a marketing add-on or if they’re meant to contribute to the total overall value in the box. I will be giving Little G these stickers to play with, since I cannot think of anywhere I would stick them! I do love the colors though and feel that the branding is very clean.
My Thoughts
December 2015 Moustache Stationery Box Total Value: $47.46
I have mixed feelings about this box since I really love the Word. notebooks and have been enjoying the Tombow brush pen… however, an entire 12 pack of student-grade pencils seems strange and I really have no use for the New Year’s Resolution notepad. Half of the December box is unabashedly Moustache-branded and it started to feel like I was receiving end-of-year gifts from vendors (in my other life at my day job). I personally would have preferred receiving more blank notebooks, pens, or unique prints rather than branded, dated items.
After two months of Moustache Stationery, I think I’m a little lost on what it is I’m supposed to be receiving. My initial understanding, based on their website, was that I would be getting an assortment of high-quality stationery and writing items sourced from around the world. So far I feel kind of let down, having cumulatively received a Sharpie, Uni-ball pen, Staedtler pencils, and Moustache Stationery shwag in my boxes.
I am hopeful that Moustache Stationery will curate boxes that are more compatible with my preferences in the future. I want to love them so badly and feel their concept is really unique!!

What do you think of December’s Moustache Stationery box?
Love!! That little calendar is adorable!! I am also a huge sucker for a nice writing pen!!
This was an interesting subscription Box . Would love to try one or two of them .
These are super cute. What a fun subscription box!
Not worth the money in my opinion. If I were to do a subscription box it would have to be really worth the money.
