Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome April 2016 Review
The Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome is a fun gender-neutral subscription box from That Daily Deal. Each box is filled with a variety of random practical and silly items at an extreme value. Boxes vary greatly month to month. Every month ThatDailyDeal.com does a promotion where one (or more) people receive SUPER boxes that include a high-ticket item. (Previous super boxes included an inflatable hot tub, a hoverboard, a 70″ curved TV, years worth of bacon, a 3D printer, etc.) This is a playful box (that is not meant to be taken too seriously) with a high retail value and a low price.

Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome April 2016
After receiving the Mini Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome earlier in the month, I knew I was in for a fun-filled box of random goodies in the regular-size Mystery Box. I was surprised by the box size when it arrived and had no idea what could be inside! (I guess that’s why it’s called a mystery box…)
The Cost: $24.99 per month
*Option to upgrade your box for an additional $9.99 per month!
Shipping Details:
- Free Shipping (Woo!)
- Orders ship to the U.S. only
- Boxes will ship out between the 15th and 19th of every month automatically.
- All orders billed on the 10th or prior will be shipped out in the current month. Orders that are billed after the 10th will receive the next month’s box.
Oooh wow! First peek and I am already excited! Bright colors always make me smile. 🙂
This sheet was laying right on top of my bounty which talks about the SUPER box swag for this month and the next. Apparently five extremely lucky subscribers were sent a massaging leather reclining chair and ottoman in their box this month! Next month at least one person will receive an iRobot Roomba to help clean up all their cat hair in the house! Yay!
Can I just say that this box of awesome is even more awesome-er by giving HUGE prizes to random subscribers every month just because they can? Seriously.
ATAK Rainproof LED Outdoor Lantern | $37.99
How cool! This is a USB-charged LED light that includes a magnetic base, has a removable hanging hook, and includes a crank for emergency lighting. I am excited to use this lantern and am already thinking Little G and I will use it in his tent this summer when it starts getting dark. LED lights are very bright making this great to use in a power outage or to put in an emergency kit.
Marvel Comics Iron Man Neoprene Coaster Set | $8.99
Little G is (still) freaking out over these coasters. He is obsessed with the artwork and the bright colors. Oh to be a toddler again… life was so much simpler…
These are really cool coasters… that have no place in my pretty living room. SO Iron Man is making his way out of my living room and into Jonathan’s workplace where he will be putting one coaster on every team member’s desk in his specialty unit. It’s a total win/win!
Pairs in Pears Game | $4.99
This is a really cute game! I knew of Bananagrams, but have never seen this one before. I needed to reference the Bananagrams website to find out a little more about the game:
Perfect for preschoolers, PAIRSinPEARS grows with your family, from the pre-reader stage all the way through adulthood. Packed with 8 engaging and educational activities, plus 2 competitive word games, your kids will learn while having fun! We know from testing that parents and teachers value the Pattern Grouping & Letter Hunt for their pre-readers. They love Rhyming & Fill in the Blank for their early readers. And, they truly enjoy the two, fast & fun games that have players racing to build word grids in friendly competition. With four full alphabet sets in four distinct designs, PAIRSinPEARS truly has something for everyone!
So that’s pretty darn cool! This is for ages 3+ which will be *perfect* for Little G! He knows all of his letters and numbers, but spelling is a completely different beast. We will use these letter tiles to help him build words and have fun!
Purelife by Regalta 7-Piece Steak Knife Set | $20.00
Look how cute! My college-self would have LOVED to have this in her apartment. Jonathan looked at these knives about the same way as I looked at the Iron Man coasters. Marriage is all about compromise, people.
The serrated blades are made of stainless steel with a non-stick coating. The brightly colored handles are plastic and have a little textured “grip” area to help prevent slipping. I will be giving these to my bestie who is coming to visit us on Sunday! 🙂 I know she’s going to be stoked!
Smart Home 20-Piece Citrus Melamine Bowl Set | $9.99
This is a pretty big box of melamine bowls. I was curious to see what they looked like inside, so naturally I opened it (duh).
Pretty bowls! I love the color scheme and the stacking ability. The lids are extremely thin and aren’t the best quality ever. As much as I love the colors and convenience of these stacking bowls, I will be giving these away since they are made of melamine and are not microwave-safe.
(6) Blue Fine Point Sharpies | $3.40
SO… these six random blue sharpies were rubberbanded together and wrapped in brown packing paper inside the box. I did not see them until after I grabbed the rest of the photos! (Oops.) These are so random, but incredibly practical! One can never have too many sharpies. They can be used on almost any surface, are obviously permanent, and come in so many colors and sizes. Fine points are where it’s at for versatility and I happen to love writing in blue sharpie, so this was a win for me!
My Thoughts
April 2016 Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome Total Value: $85.36
I am really stunned at this value and feel like the April box was a perfect balance of practical and fun. My favorite item has to be the Pairs in Pears game. I am looking forward to using this game as a learning tool to use at home with Little G, and this is not something I would think to purchase in the store. Jonathan is looking forward to bringing the Iron Man coasters to work too… just sayin’ 🙂
Overall, this box packs a huge punch and is definitely worth the $24.99 price tag, as long as you’re okay with receiving a truly random assortment of items. I’m happy to be gifting the steak knife set to my best friend and will be finding a new forever home for the melamine bowl set. Everything else works for us!
Don’t forget about the SUPER boxes that go out at random every month. There will be at least one May SUPER box that will include an iRobot Roomba vacuum!
There’s still time to sign up for a May Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome! Let us know if you get the iRobot Roomba in YOUR box!!!

What a random box! The Marvel Comics Iron Man Neoprene Coaster Set are really cool though!
Great box of variety, useful items. We could really use those knives, and I like how colorful they are. Yay to free shipping, too.
What a box of fun things! I’d like any of them.
