May 2017 My Texas Market Box Review
My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-6 carefully selected products from Texas farmers’ markets and local businesses. The small-batch artisan items fit a monthly theme and could be anything from foods, snacks, teas, candles, beauty products, crafts or any other thing you might find in a Texas farmers’ market.
Their purpose is to expose customers to new products and companies while supporting local artisan businesses. 10% of all profits are donated to the Houston Food Bank.
Subscription costs are:
1 month – $35
3 months – $100
6 months – $195
Subscription prices do not include shipping or any applicable taxes. They do promise that the value of each box will be at least $35 -$40 but to not expect that they will send a hugely underpriced box of items. You can cancel at any time or just skip a month if you wish. And if you want to purchase more of something or add to your box, they have an online market with lots of things to choose from.
The Homespun Chics received this box for review purposes. All opinions are 100% our own.
The theme of the May 2017 My Texas Market box is
From The Farm
My Texas Market always sends a great product information card. They give helpful information on each product and you can learn all about the local Texas companies that produce each one.
TLC Farms – Texas-Shaped Goat Milk Salt Bar ($5)
This delightfully scented soap is made from the milk of TLC Farms’ prizewinning Nubian dairy goats, along with sustainably sourced food grade oils and nut butters. Their salt bars have lots of creamy lather, with the salt providing gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin clean and soft. Our Texas-shaped bar contains coconut oil, sea salt, olive & castor oils, Shea butter, goat milk, French green clay, and fragrances.
Garden Dreams Houston – Fiesta Carrots
These carrots are a handcrafted, small batch-made mixture of all natural and organic carrots, jalapenos, vinegar, water, garlic, dill, and salt. The company makes over 36 varieties of jams, marmalades, salsas, and pickles and their wares can be found at local farmer’s markets.
Spaulding’s Specialty Spices – Farm to Table Veg Seasoning
This seasoning, with its locally grown ingredients handcrafted in small batches, is perfect for grilling veggies with olive oil. The delicious smelling mixture is a combination of La Baleine sea salt, organic parsley, basil, thyme, rosemary, onion, garlic, chives, chervil, bell pepper, lemon, and Tellicherry pepper.
Country Road Canning – Strawberry Fig Preserves ($6)
These preserves were a finalist in the 2014 Martha Stewart’s American Made Award Program and a Texas State Fair award winner! They are made from fresh figs and sweet Texas strawberries and sweetened with real sugar.
Texas Black Gold Garlic – Black Garlic ($16.95)
I have never seen black garlic before but it smells wonderful! This is locally grown white garlic that is heated at a constant temperature for 1-2 months, causing the enzymes and sugars to break down. This process causes the garlic to turn into a black, soft, spreadable form with a more mellow flavor. You can use it just like you would roasted garlic.
Local Savour Textiles – Just Grow With It Tea Towel ($8)
This 28” x 29” 100% cotton towel with brown screen printing is just sweet! You can find the print (and more!) on tee shirts and onsies at this local Texas food photographer and cookbook author’s Etsy shop.
The May 2017 My Texas Market box is a real From the Farm box, with all kinds of vegetable-related products created in the great state of Texas! I am in love with the soap and can’t wait to use the black garlic in a salad dressing recipe, since we are such huge garlic fans here! And I love everything else in this box, too!
Head over to My Texas Market and browse through their online shop of things from past boxes. Not sure about those things? Search our website to find our review of each one! You can create your own box with no subscription required, order a gift card for a friend so they can create their own box, or purchase a subscription. Orders over $35 have free shipping, too!
