May 2017 Chococurb Box Review
Chococurb is a monthly gourmet chocolate subscription box with a choice of two size boxes. The regular Chococurb has “five to seven personally selected, extraordinary chocolate treats.” The cost of this box is $35/month, $99 for a 3 month subscription or $180 for a 6 month subscription.
You can try it out with the Chococurb Mini, a box with three chocolates. This smaller box has a smaller price: $20/month, $57 for a 3 month subscription or $108 for a 6 month subscription.
There is a warm weather shipping charge added during certain months to certain states that compensates for the additional packaging materials required to make sure your chocolate does not melt. You can find this chart in the FAQs section of Chococurb’s website.
After you decide on the size of the box, you complete a Chocolate Profile so Chococurb can send you the kind of chocolate you love to eat. Don’t like dark chocolate? White chocolate? You won’t receive any in your box. You receive the kind of chocolates that you love! You can also purchase many of the chocolate bars that come in the monthly boxes on Chococurb’s website without committing to a monthly subscription.

The May 2017 Chococurb products arrived here in Florida well insulated in a padded foil pouch within a styrofoam cooler containing cold packs. All of the chocolate was fresh and unmelted – this extra care is what the warm weather surcharge (for some areas/some months) is for. A product information sheet is not included.
Wm Chocolate – Honduras Wampusirpi 70% Dark + Hawaiian Red Salt 2 oz ($8)
This is a handmade, single origin bar with red salt from Hawaii’s island of Kauai. Wampusirpi is in remote northeastern Honduras so the beans are not in contact with farming chemicals. The chocolate bar is rich and sweet for a dark chocolate. It melts easily in the mouth and the flavor is enhanced by the salt. One of the best dark chocolate bars I have tasted!
Seattle Chocolates – Spring Surprise Dark Chocolate Truffle Bar 2.5 oz ($3.75)
A tasty & vegan dark chocolate bar with coconut, almonds pieces, & a touch of sea salt. This is another fairly sweet dark chocolate concoction with an occasional crunch. The salt gives a bit of tang to the back of the tongue and complements the bar well. Did you know that Seattle Chocolates is a woman-owned company? Yay!!
Theo – Lemon 45% Milk Chocolate Bar 3 oz ($4)
I did not think that lemon and milk chocolate would mix well, but this candy bar proved otherwise. The milk chocolate just melts away in your mouth (OMG – SOOO good!!) but there is a definite lemon taste enhanced by the tart and very tiny pieces of lemon rind that you bite down on. The bar is organic and fair trade. Excellent!
Fran’s – Smoked Salt Caramels in Milk Chocolate .9 oz ($7)
This little package contains 3 soft caramels dipped in 38% milk chocolate and finished with gray salt. The caramel really is buttery soft, the chocolate is a perfect covering and the whole experience is nothing short of divine!
The retail value for the gourmet, premium chocolate bars in the May 2017 Chococurb box came to $30.75. I really loved each item in the box and appreciated the care that went into making sure that nothing melted in our 90 degree May heat. This subscription box has introduced me to some of the finest chocolate companies in the business!
