May 2016 Taste Trunk Review
Taste Trunk is a monthly subscription box for gourmet foods. They have a selection of trunks you can choose from – Gourmet, Healthy Chef, Sweet or BBQ – or you can create a unique trunk for yourself. They also have trunks available for single purchases. You will receive 4-6 premium gourmet products. Cost of a subscription is $39/month with free shipping.
The Homespun Chics paid for this subscription box. All opinions are 100% our own. This post contains affiliate links.
The May 2016 Taste Trunk box had five different foodie items and it all arrives safely with no breakage. I love their presentation – that black ribbon tied in a bow with great food tucked underneath just waiting for me to dig in! Taste Trunk does not include a product information sheet in their subscription boxes and that is one thing I wish they would change as I like to read about my new foods without having to do an internet search for each one.
Al dente Pasta – Garlic Herb Pappardelle Noodles 12 oz ($3.39)
Pappardelle is a wide pasta that is trendy right now and the garlic herb variety sounds just killer! This pasta is just like homemade – mixed in small batches and rolled out by real people. There are directions on the back of the bag along with a recipe for veggie and chicken sausage ragu that I will have to try out!
Sticky Fingers Bakeries – Irish Soda Bread Premium Mix 15 oz ($5.99)
This is a quick and easy mix and you just have to add water, mix and then bake. Or you can add beer to the mix to jazz it up a bit! It is a “nutty, fruity, a wonderful combination of caraway and raisins. A traditional Irish soda bread recipe.”
Molinari & Sons – Pepperoni 8 oz ($5.79)
This is a traditional dried pepperoni made in San Francisco. I am looking forward to using it in so many different recipes – on pizza and flatbreads, in salad, in a frittata!
Maison de Monaco – Blueberry & Lemon Peel Preserves 8.3 oz ($9.97)
This a jar of preserves hand-made in San Francisco using a traditional French recipe. That means more fruit and less sugar. The preserves have no high fructose corn syrup and are 70% real fruit.
Seattle Chocolates – 8 wrapped candies 2.4 oz ($3.30)
Last but certainly not least, this is a random selection of 8 chocolate candy truffles wrapped in foil. They are really delicious and I would love to have a whole box filled with them! All Seattle Chocolates are non-GMO and dairy Kosher.
The May 2016 Taste Trunk box had some delicious items, all of which we will eat except maybe the Irish Soda bread because I am neither a fan of raisins nor of caraway. And I can’t imagine mixing them. But other than that, it is all good to go! The value of the box is way under the price paid, coming to $28.44. I did my own research on prices, as Taste Trunk had the pasta listed at $8.99. I found it several other places (including the brand website) at $3.39. Big difference. But even if the pasta was at the cost listed by Taste Trunk, the value of the items in the box would not have come up to the price paid for the box.
This is my last Taste Trunk box and I will not be renewing my subscription. The items they curated for my boxes the past 3 months have been tasty and we have enjoyed them, but this is one subscription box that is certainly not a good value for my money. That being said, this would still be a great box to send to someone as a gift. The food items are quality and the presentation is quite classy. So if you are thinking about a Father’s Day gift to send, you might want to check out Taste Trunk’s website to see the options they have available.
I love this idea of different options for trunks – I love this one, and I’m getting hungry looking at these yummy foods!
Eh, I’ve gotta be honest: I’m not at all excited about this one.
The phrase “carefully curated” comes to mind. This seems like a nice service (and I use that word with intention) and all, but to me it looks as though someone put together a gift basket from, say, Treasure Island (in Chicago– “America’s Most European Supermarket;” yes, I had to look up their slogan) and wrapped it up all swankily. YEAH: swankily.
I can easily imagine someone going nuts (gourmet– sorry, “artisanal” nuts) for this one, and I really do respect that. Different strokes, y’know?
Thanks for the review; you Chics have such a knack for finding all kinds of things! (Read: Hire me? :p )
I love the trunk it all comes in. This is a cool box!
I like trying new foods, but I’m also cost conscious so this would not be a good box for me.
The Blueberry & Lemon Peel Preserves looks like it would be good!
