May 2016 My Texas Market Box Review
My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-6 carefully selected products from Texas farmers’ markets and local businesses. The small-batch artisan items fit a monthly theme and could be anything from foods, snacks, teas, candles, beauty products, crafts or any other thing you might find in a Texas farmers’ market. Their purpose is to expose customers to new products and companies while supporting local artisan businesses. Subscription costs are:
- 1 month – $35
- 3 months – $100
- 6 months – $195
Subscription prices do not include shipping or any applicable taxes. They do promise that the value of each box will be at least $35 -$40 but not to expect that they will send a hugely underpriced box of items. You can cancel at any time or just skip a month if you wish. And if you want to purchase more of something or add to your box, they have an online market with lots of things to choose from.

The theme of the May 2016 My Texas Market box is Backyard Barbecue.
“Time to fire up the grill and take the party outside. This is the perfect time of year for sunshine, sweet tea, and good times with the ones you love.”
My Texas Market takes care to not only choose theme-appropriate content but to create a theme-appropriate presentation as well. This month I opened a pretty red plaid tissue paper wrapping to peek inside the box. Each breakable item also was carefully packaged. I have never had anything broken in shipment from this company.
The product information card for the May 2016 My Texas Market box is on the back of a collage of summer cook-out images to get you inspired to head outside and enjoy the beautiful late spring weather. The box contained 6 products from Texas companies that were perfectly curated to fit the theme.
Spaulding’s Specialty Spices – Smoke on the Barbie Rub 3.8 oz Full Size ($8)?
A spice blend out of Wylie, Texas. This has finely shaved chips of spices, not powder, and the ingredients are LaBaliene Sea Salt, Smoked Sea Salt Blend, Organic Smoked Paprika, Garlic Powder, Basil, Thyme, Onion Flake, & Tellicherry Black Pepper. The jar has a handwritten batch number and expiration date on the label and I tell you it smells divine!
White Cloud World Teas – Peach Paradise Tea 2 oz ($6.95)
This herbal blend is made of peach pieces, apple pieces, hibiscus blossoms, elderberries, rosehip peel, passionfruit and sunflower. You can drink it hot or cold – and it tastes as good as it smells!! Mmmmm!
Larry’s Bag of Smoke – Hickory Smoke bag 4 oz ($5)?
This is handmade in Katy, Texas from cotton muslin stuffed with Texas wood chips. They have 10 varieties of wood and the one sent was hickory – just perfect for our back yard BBQ! This is such a very cool idea – a reuseable bag of wood chips for that smoky flavor you love! We soaked our bag of chips for about an hour prior to use, put it in an aluminum pan and placed it on the grill. And I have to say that our chicken came out just delicious with a lovely hickory smoke flavor. The only spices we used were salt and pepper, so I am sure the flavor came directly from those wood chips! Woo Hoo!!
Stellar Gourmet Foods – Texas Triple Threat Mustard 9 oz Full Size ($6.99)
How does grapefruit, habanero and tequila mustard sound? Well, let me tell you how it tasted – WONDERFUL! A little zingy but not too hot and with hints of its ingredients just popping out at you. This is real Texas mustard, made with aged habanero chiles, tequila, honey and Texas red grapefruit.
Benjamin Soap Co. – Bug Repellent .75 oz travel size ($7.50)
This is an all natural bug repellent made from cocoa butter, beeswax, coconut and castor oils, citronella, peppermint, clove and eucalyptus oils. Not a drop of deet or other chemicals included. Made in Austin to keep those Zika mosquitoes away this summer! Just apply it on your wrists and ankles when you go out. And do toss it in your picnic basket!
Kellie’s Baking Co. – Mason Jar Brookie ($5)?
Another very cool Austin creation is the Brookie that arrived in its own mason jar! Eat it right away? No problem!! And I didn’t even wait until after dinner! A Brookie is
“a fudgy brownie baked with a chocolate chip cookie layer, topped with toasted marshmallows, chocolate ganache, caramel drizzle, cookie crumbs, powdered sugar and a kiss of sea salt, aka heaven!”
And I agree – it was a pure touch of indulgent delight!
I had to guess at a few of the prices, but the product value of the May 2016 My Texas Market box came to just about $40. As usual, they were spot-on with curating just the right items for their theme and keeping Texas first and foremost! This has become one of my very favorite boxes – they rarely miss with the items chosen for each month!
That Brookie!!!! *insert drool here* Love that they included bug repellant!! Mosquitoes are awful here in Wisconsin and bug repellent is a must but we often forget it!
The Peach Paradise Tea sounds AMAZING. I am a huge tea lover though. 🙂
Awesome idea and products! I really like these unique items and the product card explaining what was in the box is great. Wonder what a box would be like from other states.
What a fun box! I doubt that I’m getting to see Texas any time soon, this is a close second – let Texas come to me!!!!
