March 2016 My Texas Market Box Review
My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-6 carefully selected products from Texas farmers’ markets and local businesses. The small-batch artisan items fit a monthly theme and could be anything from foods, snacks, teas, candles, beauty products, crafts or any other thing you might find in a Texas farmers’ market. Their purpose is to expose customers to new products and companies while supporting local artisan businesses. Subscription costs are:
- 1 month – $35
- 3 months – $100
- 6 months – $195
Subscription prices do not include shipping or any applicable taxes. They do promise that the value of each box will be at least $35 -$40 but to not expect that they will send a hugely underpriced box of items. You can cancel at any time or just skip a month if you wish. And if you want to purchase more of something or add to your box, they have an online market with lots of things to choose from.
The Homespun Chics received this box for review purposes. All opinions are 100% our own.
I was so excited when I opened the March 2016 My Texas Market box and saw it was a RODEO themed month! I have never been to a Rodeo but my son is stationed in Texas and had the best time at one last year! Just in case you did not know, March is Rodeo month in Texas and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs throughout the month. So if I can’t get to the rodeo this year, at least I can enjoy all the goodies inspired by that great Texas tradition!
So let’s explore what came in this March 2016 My Texas Market box! At first peek, everything was carefully padded and packaged, nothing broken – and I love opening the wrappings to see what they sent! There was a little hand written note right on top thanking us for supporting the Texas businesses that made these products!
The next thing I always look for in a subscription box is a product description card so that I can learn about the items and where they came from. My Texas Market does this up right every month!
Basic Foodism – Original Thick and Spicy BBQ Sauce 14.5 oz ($7)
This is a barbeque sauce made with all natural ingredients. That means no preservatives, artificial colors or high fructose corn syrup. You can use it as a BBQ sauce, a marinade or as a dipping sauce. The flavor is just right for me, not too sweet or too spicy.
Bark Park – Republic of Texas Magnet ($8??)
This is a magnet with a backstory! It is made from reclaimed wood from a huge native Texas pecan tree that was cut down by the city. On the magnet is engrave the Republic of Texas seal that was used (1836 – 1845) prior to Texas joining the union as a state. And the pecan tree is the Texas state tree, so it is a perfect marriage! This very cool magnet has a place of honor on my fridge surrounded by magnets from other countries I have visited!
ATX Homemade Jerky – Original Peppered Beef 2.5 oz ($6.99)
This is really great beef jerky! It is made from grass-fed angus beef, locally sourced from BLT farm in Llano, Texas – so definitely a true taste of Texas ranching all the way down the food chain to us here in NC! There are no antibiotics, growth hormones, preservatives, or MSG here, just a very high quality product that tasted great! This jerky flavor was a bit peppery, but not too much, and a bit salty, again not too much. And between my husband and myself, it was gone in one afternoon!
Tejas Chocolate – Bayou City 1 oz ($7)
This is a very tasty single origin & small batch chocolate with the batch number hand written on the back of the package. The kind I received was 62% Dominican Republic Cacao, made with cacao, pure cane sugar and whole vanilla bean. It is not too sweet and has a satiny feel as it melts in your mouth. I think this is what pure chocolate is supposed to taste like.
Garden Dreams Houston – Texas Two-Step Jam 4 oz ($5??)
This jam was custom-made for the My Texas Market box in small batches and is a mixture of sweet strawberries and hot jalapenos. The ingredients are locally grown and the jam is created without chemical additives. This was just so tasty! I poured it over cream cheese and we ate it with crackers. I just managed to get a few – I left the room and when I returned the whole thing was eaten and gone!!
Kuhdoo Soap Company – Texas Gentleman Shave Bar ($10)
This is a round bar of shaving soap 3” in diameter and 1 ¼” thick and smells wonderfully tangy and woodsy. It is “All Natural Handcrafted Soap Made with love and ingredients you can pronounce in Austin, Texas” and the ingredients are olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, shea butter, coco butter, sunflower oil, raw Texas honey and bentonite clay. Sounds like you could cook with it as well as wash with it! I don’t shave and hubby has a mustache and beard, but I will use this as hand soap and make my bathroom smell sooo good!
The value of the items in the March 2016 My Texas Market box comes to about $44, give or take, since I guessed at a couple of the prices. The box was well curated to fit the monthly theme and each item was a joy to review! I can’t wait for the April box and one of these days (actually, this fall!) I am going to Texas!
I’ve never heard of this company before, but would love to try them out! Thanks for the review.
Blessings,
Edye
