March 2016 Chococurb Box Review
Oh Joy! The March 2016 Chococurb Subscription Box is here!
Chococurb is a monthly gourmet chocolate subscription box with a choice of two size boxes. The regular Chococurb has “five to seven personally selected, extraordinary chocolate treats.” The cost of this box is $35/month, $99 for a 3 month subscription or $180 for a 6 month subscription.
You can try it out with the Chococurb Mini, a box with three chocolates. This smaller box has a smaller price: $20/month, $57 for a 3 month subscription or $108 for a 6 month subscription.
After you decide on the size of the box, you complete a Chocolate Profile so Chococurb can send you the kind of chocolate you love to eat. Don’t like dark chocolate? White chocolate? You won’t receive any in your box. You receive the kind of chocolates that you love!
The Homespun Chics paid for this subscription. All opinions are 100% our own.
So by now you are probably wishing I would stop with all the promo and tell you “What is in the Box??” Am I right?
Rózsavölgyi Csokoládé – Chocolate with Candied Cacao Nibs in Palinka 77% ($12.99)
This was delicious and just about too pretty to eat. It is dark chocolate combined with fennel and candied cocoa nibs soaked in palinka, a traditional Hungarian fruit brandy. Each bar is molded to look like traditional Hungarian fireplace tiles. And the packaging is beautiful! Looking for a gift chocolate bar? This would definitely be the ONE!
Antidote Chocolate Mango Pieces + Juniper 2.3 oz ($6.95)
This was my 2nd favorite piece in the box! It is 73% raw & roasted cacao (50/50 blend) mixed with dried mango tidbits and crushed juniper berries. The beans come from a single farm providing fair and direct wages in Ecuador. On the package:
Hybris – Greek Goddess of Pride and Insolence:
With her outrageous behavior, Hybris is the Antidote to rear and timidity. Her overpowering spirit comes alive through juniper berries and mango, the Queen of all fruits. Get your diva on.
This is health food for sure!
Videri Chocolate Factory Dark Milk 55% 1.4 oz ($6)
Not too sweet, not as puckery as some dark chocolates. It is milk chocolate with more cocoa beans added and made with organic whole milk. The flavor is complex and I find myself exploring each taste to see if it is milk chocolate or dark chocolate when in fact it is just in the middle. The use by date and edition# are hand written on the back of the bar – love small batch confections!
Theo Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups 1.3 oz ($2.29)
The first fair trade peanut butter cup! Organic, palm free and soy free. And they are really good, too. Much better than one of the grocery store brand peanut butter cups. The package contained 2 pieces, one for each of us!
TCHO Serious Milk “Cacao” sample piece .28 oz ($5.95 for a full size 2 oz bar)
“Milk Chocolate with lush and fudgy notes” This piece is organic and fair trade and delicious!
Pacari Chocolate Raw 70% Cacao Chocolate Bar sample piece 10 gms ($7.99 for a full size 1.7 oz bar)
This is a small dark chocolate piece with a rich chocolate taste, organic and fair trade.
Seattle Chocolates Birthday Cake Batter piece in foil ($1) ($3.50 for a full size 2.5 oz bar)
This is a sample piece wrapped in foil that is the same one I received in last month’s box. And I am not complaining because I loved it then and I still love it! And I would LOVE to have a full size bar!! They taste like vanilla frosted yellow cake with confetti pieces mixed into the milk chocolate. And currently the full size bar is sold out on Chococurb’s site.
Did you know you can purchase the chocolate bars that come in the monthly boxes on Chococurb’s website? So if you read about some of the great chocolate treats that we are eating now at my house and you want them for yourself without the commitment of a monthly box, you can just order them.
It is difficult to figure the value of sample pieces of the chocolate so I have valued them at $1 each. With that said, the value of the chocolates in the March 2016 Chococurb box comes to a little over $28. The box costs $35, so I can give to them the cost of the shipping, but still it is not a sweet deal. I received 4 full size bars and the other 3 were small sample pieces. Each were very tasty and I love chocolate, but I am also very aware of value for the money spent. We have one more month of Chococurb to review and while I look forward to the sweet treats, I am not sure I will renew!
I want this: The first fair trade peanut butter cup. Heavenly.
DENVER — An early spring blizzard caused multiple crashes and closed several interstates and highways in Colorado on Wednesday.
Some of the major roadways have reopened, but travel problems remain.
Yep. I just stayed home. And now I have no chocolate.
These all sound so good! I would love to try the Rózsavölgyi Csokoládé and the Theo Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups!
