June 2016 Farm to People Tasting Box Review
Farm to People is a foodie subscription box that contains locally crafted, small batch gourmet foodstuffs that are free of GMOs and artificial ingredients. Their meat/dairy/egg products come from animals that have been humanely raised and fed non-GMO foods.
Farm to People also sells body care products, pet care products and accessories. Each month brings a new theme.
They offer two different subscription boxes:
The Casual Foodie – 3 – 4 products – $29.95
The Food Critic – 5 – 8 products – $49.99
The Homespun Chics paid for this subscription box. All opinions are 100% our own.
I love foodie subscription boxes so I couldn’t wait to see what was in my June 2016 Farm to People Tasting Box! When I opened the box, all of the items were well packed with recyclable brown paper and there was no breakage at all. Great start!
And then I always look for a product information card. Farm to People has a great fold-out information card that not only tells you all about the items in the box, it has photos and information about the company and a map that indicates where the company is located. I do love that kind of transparency and the obviously close connection between the box company and the businesses whose items we are receiving!
The theme of the June 2016 Farm to People Tasting Box was Southeast Asia. There were 5 items in my box and they were all well curated to fit the theme.
Burma Superstar – Lotus Root Chips 2 oz ($5.32)
These crispy lotus chips are seasoned with roasted seaweed, sesame seeds sea salt, pepper and cayenne. They are really good and taste kind of like potato chips. I feared they would be spicy when I saw they had cayenne as a seasoning but they aren’t spicy at all.
Look at the cool shape of these chips! I opened them to try them and ate almost the whole bag!!
Jojo’s Sriracha – Chili Sauce 6.4 oz ($13.99)
This is small batch chili sauce made using organic ingredients. The chili peppers are sourced from farmers who do not spray their peppers with pesticides or chemicals. I have seen so many recipes lately with this sauce as a defining ingredient so I am really looking forward to trying it out.
Skillet Street Food – Thai Coconut Pumpkin Ketchup 4 oz ($8.99)
New to me. It sounds so very different but I think it is sort of like Thousand Island dressing. In addition to the ingredients in the name, this sauce also contains anchovies and curry plus a lot of other ingredients that I love. How can it be bad? So with an open mind (and mouth) I will give it a try. They suggest using it as a dipping sauce or marinade.
Nuts + Nuts – Sweet & Salty Indonesian Cashews 1.76 oz ($3.63)
These are slow roasted in coconut oil cashews using an Indonesian recipe and flavored with garlic, sugar and sea salt.
Laguna Salt Company – Sweet Hibiscus Sea Salt 2 oz ($6.95)
This is salt from Pacific seawater that has had hibiscus flower added for sweetness. It has a red color and floral overtones. Sounds great to try on a summer pasta salad!
I was pleased with the items in my June 2016 Farm to People Tasting Box. This was the first one I had reviewed and I liked the variety of 2 snacks and 3 flavorings. The price of the items came to $38.88, so a good value for the Casual Foodie box that it was. We eat a lot of Asian-inspired meals here and I felt that the choices fit the monthly theme well. Can’t wait to see what next month brings! What did you think? Have you tried Farm to People?
Foodie subscription boxes always look so amazing. I like how listed and detailed everything is. You really learn about new products and new tastes.
Yum! I love foodie subscription boxes, it’s really fun to try new and delicious things! 🙂 I think the root chips sound delicious!
