June 2016 Alpha Outpost Review: The Dopp Kit
Alpha Outpost is a new monthly lifestyle subscription box for men curated around a different theme each month. Each box “provides the tools and supplies you need to take any situation by the jugular” and is guaranteed to be valued at least twice as high as the purchase price. Alpha Outpost is owned and operated by U.S. military veterans.
The Homespun Chics received this box for review. All opinions are 100% our own. This post contains affiliate links.
June 2016 Alpha Outpost – The Dopp Kit
Alpha Outpost is THE best subscription box for guys in my book. This company knows how to consistently curate a well-crafted monthly box filled with high value items that fit a given theme. As if that wasn’t enough, Alpha Outpost is owned and operated by U.S. military veterans who have a great sense of humor and display excellent customer service. Mom reviewed the last two AO boxes we received (which were phenomenal, by the way), so the June box is all mine (err, Jonathan’s, rather).
The Cost: Starting at $39.95 per month + $6.95 s/h
(cheaper for multi-month subscriptions)
First peek in the box and it smells like clean-man-scent! Nice!
Every Alpha Outpost box contains a small packing slip that lists all of the items along with unit pricing. I have found the list prices to be a fair representation of retail values, especially since a large portion of the items are exclusive to- or customized for Alpha Outpost.
Alpha Outpost also includes a large information sheet in the box. Riddled with guy-humor, this page provides brief explanations of every item in the box, plus it made me laugh.
Oooh! Free stickers that say stuff and things! I am really happy to see promotional material included from other veteran-run companies. Alpha Outpost makes a habit out of supporting fellow veterans. These stickers are from the companies Tactical Sh*t (online shop for tactical gear) and Grunt Style (online shop for patriotic apparel).
This month, I received The Dopp Kit Grooming Manual to help guide me through this foreign territory of man-dom. Because it’s hilarious, I will share the full booklet with you… Feel free to skip past if you’d like, but I think the content is interesting and funny!
What’d you think?? I heard Jonathan chuckle a few times while reading through it. Total guy humor. I love it!
Enough of that… Let’s check out the goods! 🙂
Alpha Outpost Baseball Cap | Bonus Item!
Alpha Outpost Patch | $3.00
Alpha Outpost Face Towel | $5.00
Woohoo! I am SO excited to see this hat. I have been spending my lunch breaks running the lake, which means I am completely insane. Most days it is over 90 degrees with full-on sunshine, so this hat will be *perfect* for protecting my eyes in the sun… not to mention it fits perfectly! The AO face towel is very soft though I struggled with all of the little fuzzies shedding everywhere (you know what I’m talking about). The patch has velcro on the back so it can easily attach to backpacks, molle bags, etc.
Alpha Outpost Waterproof Dopp Bag | $20.00
This is a really nice waterproof bag that has plenty of compartments to fit all of a guy’s grooming necessities. There is even a velcro spot on the front to attach patches!
Back of the dopp bag – check out that Alpha Outpost tag!
Inside the dopp bag.
Finger Nail Clippers | $6.00
Toe Nail Clippers | $8.00
I love the look of these sleek, modern nail clippers. For the record, I never thought I’d have reason to write that sentence… It must be a difficult job to make nail clippers look sexy. Whoever designed these should get a raise.
Duke Cannon Soap | $8.00
Alpha Outpost Soap Pouch | $3.00
The Duke Cannon soap bar is truly as its slogan states: a really “big a** brick of soap”. According to Duke Cannon’s website, “this product is modeled after the rough cut, ‘brick’ style of soap used by GIs during the Korean War and is manufactured in the same plant that was the primary supplier of military soap for over 20 years.” How cool is that??? I really like the bright yellow soap pouch too. This will make a perfect Christmas gift for my stinky brother, Jamie, who is a wildland firefighter with the U.S. Forestry Service. 🙂
Huckleberry Beard Company Pre-Shave Oil | $15.00
I had no clue about shave oil, but apparently guys dab this oil on their faces, let it soak in, then apply shave cream over it. The oil helps protect skin from razor burn and loosens pores for a cleaner shave. Pretty cool idea… I am making Jonathan try this out tomorrow morning. I’m expecting baby-face results.
Metal Comb | $12.00
Alpha Outpost Professional Barber Scissors | $10.00
I am so relieved to see a comb in here! Little G just bent / broke our one plastic comb and we keep forgetting to pick one up while we’re out and about. This is actually a really lovely grooming set and feels solid in my hand. The barber scissors are awesome! I wanted to practice trimming hair on my long-haired ragdoll cat, but I refrained. He’s too prissy for that nonsense. The scissors are AO-branded and even have a tiny rubber stopper on one side of the handle.
Alpha Outpost Straight Razor | $15.00
Ooooh yeah, this is a really slick looking straight razor and the branding is on point. The handle has a nice faux-wood finish and the blade feels sharp. I just asked Jonathan if he’d use this razor, to which he replied, “Yeah, I’ll try it out.”
Then I asked if he would let me use it on him, to which he replied, “Not a chance in hell.” Oh well, a girl can dream. 🙂
My Thoughts
June 2016 Alpha Outpost “The Dopp Kit” Total Value: $105.00
This month’s box was one of my absolute favorites! I am actually starting to become jealous of my own husband for getting to enjoy all this cool guy stuff from AO. I love everything in the box and cannot wait to give the giant soap bar and soap pouch to Jamie. I felt this box held true to the theme while still being unique and holding true to the bada**-edness that we have grown to expect from Alpha Outpost. I absolutely adore this subscription box company and cannot wait to see what’s up next!!
