January 2019 Target Skincare Beauty Box Review
January 2019 Target Skincare Beauty Box
Each month, Target launches at least one limited edition box filled with beauty (or grooming) samples. The boxes typically sell out very quickly and cost around $5 – 7 each with free shipping!
This month, Target brought out two different beauty boxes: the “flawless” beauty box (check out our review here) and this skincare beauty box.
The Cost: $7.00
*The skincare box is sold out as of this post, but you can still get the January “flawless” beauty box and December’s men’s grooming box for just $5 each on Target.com!
The Homespun Chics paid for this box. All opinions are 100% our own. This post may contain affiliate links.
The January 2019 Target Skincare Beauty Box is all about “skin-sational” beauty finds, featuring 7 different sample-size skincare products to try out! Target always includes an information card with every beauty box sent out.
The back of the card details each product with tips and tricks on how to use them! The bottom of the card has an awesome single-use coupon for $3 off a skin care purchase of $15 or more!
Vichy | Mineral 89 (0.17 oz) – est. value $3.02
Mineral Rich Water and Hyaluronic Acid fortify skin, making it resistant to visible aging, all while delivering a boost of hydration — hello glow! For best results, apply 2 drops onto skin after cleansing in the morning and evening.
This is a really moisturizing serum that applies almost like a hair gel… to your face. It has no fragrance (woohoo!) and leaves no residue behind. I noticed a near instant difference in my face. My skin felt softer and slightly firmer than before I used it. I can see why the full-size bottle (1.69 oz) costs $29.99! This serum is awesome!
Cetaphil | Extra Gentle Daily Scrub (0.33 fl oz) – est. value $0.44
Gently removes dirt, oil and impurities, while micro-fine granules buff away dry, dull skin leaving behind a gorgeous glow. To lock in hydration, immediately follow up with Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream.
I first discovered Cetaphil when I was about 12 years old. I saw a large-ish bottle of some Cetaphil wash sitting on the bathtub and had no clue what it was. I figured maybe it was shampoo or some other fancy adult hair product… so I used it on my hair. Turns out, it was my mom’s face wash. Oops. My mom LOVES Cetaphil products so this daily scrub is going her way! She says it’s extremely gentle on her skin and does a great job cleaning away all the dirt from the day.
Cetaphil | Moisturizing Cream (0.14 oz) – est. value $0.10
Rich blend of emolients and humectants binds moisture to the skin for a softer, smoother complexion.
I’ve tried this moisturizing cream before and can say that it is awesome. It truly is fragrance free and the cream absorbs beautifully in the skin. Unfortunately, I can’t wrap my head around why we received such a tiny sample packet. This is a really affordable moisturizing cream at just $10.99 for a 16 oz jar. I would have preferred a little tub or squeeze tube of the cream with slightly more product so we would have a better idea of how this makes our skin feel over a few different applications rather than a one-time use. Either way, love the product and highly recommend it!
Dove | DermaSeries Body Lotion Replenish (1.7 fl oz) – est. value $1.17
Clinically proven to replenish extremely dry skin and restore its natural protective barrier over time.
This is a wonderful lotion! It’s fragrance-free, soft, and fast absorbing. My husband came home today with really cracked hands. I offered up this lotion and waited to see what he thought. He loved it so much that he actually took it from me and put it in his suitcase for work tomorrow! The full-size product comes in a square bottle with a pump and only costs $10.89 for 15.8 oz!
La Roche-Posay | Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser (0.5 fl oz) – est. value $0.56
Gently cleanses, while maintaining skin’s natural pH balance, to restore moisture for a clean-and-clear complexion.
This cleanser is for normal to dry skin, which is definitely not me. Since it is a moisturizing cleanser, I will be giving this to mom to try out. I have combination to oily skin and am really particular about which products I use on my face. (One wrong move and I’m back in high school with acne.) I am also a little skeptical about its claims of removing face and eye makeup, but since I won’t be trying this cleanser, I can’t speak to whether or not it actually works. It appears to be more of a face wash than a cleanser though.
La Roche-Posay | Redermic R (0.17 oz) – est. value $9.69
Potent retinol cream visibly reduces wrinkles, smooths texture and helps even skin tone. Retinol is powerful! Apply moisturizer onto your face first to water down its potency.
I was shocked at how expensive this was (full-size is only 1 oz selling for $56.99). Since I am not currently in need of an anti-ageing concentrate, this will be gifted to my mom for use. She told me that retinol is supposed to be really great for your skin so I’m excited she will get to try this product!
CeraVe | Skin Renewing Night Cream (0.17 oz) – est. value $1.27
Specially designed to work with your natural circadian rhythm to help restore skin’s barrier overnight — wake up to a refreshed, renewed you. Apply around the face in small dots, then gently smooth onto skin until thoroughly absorbed. Use nightly before bed.
This night cream is not fragrance-free and it isn’t fragranced either. I’m not sure what it smells like exactly, but I don’t really care for it. As with most night creams, this one is extremely hydrating and doesn’t dry down completely. I wouldn’t suggest you apply it all over your face unless you are extremely dry and flaky all over. This really works for adding moisture back into the skin overnight and would probably not be the best product for oily skin.
Final Thoughts
The total value of the January 2019 Target Skincare Beauty Box was around $16.25. Overall, this was a great mix of skincare products in portable trial sizes. The main value of the box came from the La Roche-Posay Redermic R, so I was a little disappointed that it was one of the few products I couldn’t test out. (Actually, I passed on both La Roche-Posay products!) My favorite item has to be the Vichy Mineral 89 followed closely by the Dove DermaSeries body lotion.
I’m interested to see if I, like many before me, become completely addicted to the Vichy Mineral 89 by the time I finish the sample and end up buying the full-size bottle!
What do you think of this box? Let us know in the comments below whether you’ve tried any of these products before!
This is a great way to try before you buy. I would love to sample these all. Can’t beat the price!
Looks like a great box! I’d like to try their skincare box
I have received the Target beauty box and I will say that I’m happy about the products that I received.
I love Cetaphil is one of my favorites
