First peek! I love January’s cheerful bag!
The theme for the January 2017 Play! by Sephora box was
Beauty, Set, Go
The large fold-out product information sheet (the PLAY! BOOK) gives lots of great instructions and suggestions, no pricing or actual photos. The PLAY! PASS card is attached to the front of the PLAY! BOOK.
Tarte – Frxxxtion Stick .22 oz sample size ($2.50)
This is a twist-up exfoliating solid gel cleanser that can also be used as a 10 minute mask to purify and revitalize your skin. You rub the gel stick on your face and add water – it works up into a lather to slough away impurities.
Drunk Elephant – Lala Retro Whipped Cream 5 ml sample size ($.60)
This is a rich moisturizing face cream made with a blend of six African oils to brighten and firm your skin.
Ouai Haircare – Treatment Mask .5 oz sample size ($4)
This treatment mask for your hair strengthens strands as well as giving your hair a healthy shine. Use it prior to showering and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes.
It Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream sample size 4 ml ($8.70)
This is an SPF 50 CC cream in medium. It has high pigment and full coverage but blends in well without creasing. This cream also has hyaluronic acid to moisturize and protect against aging.
Clinique – Almost Lipstick in Black Honey mini size ($15)
This is a sheer, glossy lip color that has been a favorite since the 1970s. This was one of the items I really looked forward to using but the tube was stuck and would not raise the lipstick up, then after the cap was put back on the lipstick popped up and was smashed on the lid.
Tory Burch – Love Relentlessly 1.5 ml sample size ($4)
This is a new fragrance that is lightly spicy with a patchouli base. It is not too heavy for day wear but would be appropriate for an evening out as well.
The retail value of the beauty samples in the January 2017 Play! by Sephora box came to roughly $34.80 with 2 skin care products, 1 hair care product, 2 cosmetics, and the perfume sample. I rarely use scents so I will find a new home for the perfume but everything else is great!
What did you think?
Love it!! Except that lipstick 🙁 What a bummer!! Did you contact them to see if they would send a replacement??
This looks like a lovely subscription to have, I love that they give you a little sample of different items to try before you buy the product.

Think would be great for my teenage granddaughter. She loves to try new products and it is within her budget.
I love the idea of a subscription box!! I don’t wear much makeup these days though.
I love January’s Sephora Play box! I actually have the Clinique Black Honey lipstick. This month’s box is a home run!
This looks like a great deal and I love Sephora, so this is the monthly box for me!
I love the product selection! I’ve been wanting to try a monthly subscription box, and this looks like a good one! Thanks for the post 🙂
I would love this. I tend to use the same old products, and never try anything new. This would be really fun. My daughter would adore it.
Thanks So Much for Sharing Your Review of This Play by Sephora Subscription Box, I Really Appreciate it! I Don’t Currently Get Any Kind of Subscription Boxes at the Time b/c I Was in a Bad Motorcycle Accident and I’m Not Able to Work Right Now Ergo I’m on a Bit of a Budget! I Always Wanted to Try a Beauty Subscription Box and My Favorite Ones are the Julep Maven Sub Box, the Popsugar Must Have Box, and the Play by Sephora Sub Box! Those are the Ones That I Really Want to Try, I Think You Get So Many Great Things for the Price in the Sephora Boxes! Well Thanks Again for Sharing, I Will Keep This in Mind When I Can Actually Afford a Beauty Box! Have a Wonderful Evening! – Jana
