Nutrish Zero Grain Cat Food VoxBox
I couldn’t believe I received a second VoxBox for Nutrish! This time we’re reviewing the Nutrish Zero Grain cat food, which means I get more practice herding cats for photos! (Lucky me…) I was so impressed with the Nutrish dog food after reviewing it for Influenster that we actually switched Beijing over to it permanently. Her skin is healthier and she is much more active than before, plus she looks forward to breakfast and dinner! I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to sample the Nutrish Zero Grain cat food and see how my six felines like the brand.
Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain for Cats
Chicken & Potato Recipe (3 LB)
In case you’re just joining us on The Homespun Chics… Hi, my name is Sarah and I am a crazy cat lady. I personally have six beautiful, sweet felines in my house that all range in age, sex, and health. Due to our busy schedules we free-feed at the house, which means there is always dry food available for leisurely kitty grazing.
I am in constant search for the one food to rule them all — a single dry cat food that covers all of my big points:
- safe for young, middle-aged, and elderly cats
- suits the dietary needs of skinny, average, and obese cats
- tasty enough for picky eaters
- contains nutritious ingredients with little to no filler junk
- AFFORDABLE – Let’s be honest, six cats means a whole lot of food!
Before getting started on the review, I had to check out the price tag on Nutrish Zero Grain. The Chicken & Potato Recipe comes in three sizes, priced as follows:
3 LB Bag = $6.44 on Amazon
6 LB Bag = $17.99 at K-Mart
12 LB Bag = $31.99 on Chewy.com
I would consider these costs reasonable for good quality cat food. There were times I was actually paying $45+ for a 15 LB bag of cat food!
I love that this Chicken & Potato Recipe contains no grains, glutens or fillers and that U.S. farm-raised chicken is the #1 ingredient! This is already shaping up to be an excellent contender in our quest to find the perfect all-around cat food.
Unlike other cat foods I have seen, Nutrish Zero Grain contains NO artificial preservatives, colors, or artificial flavors! In addition to chicken, this recipe also includes potatoes, peas, cranberries, eggs, beet pulp and taurine. The food looks great and each piece is small enough even for my littlest cat to enjoy!
Now for the taste test!
*I slowly transitioned my cats to Nutrish Zero Grain to prepare for this photo shoot. I highly recommend introducing new food slowly into your cat(s)’s diet to avoid cleaning up messy litter boxes and kitty vomit.
I allowed all of my cats the opportunity to try out the food individually and was surprised by how much everyone loved it! (I should have known.)
First up to try out the new food was Katie the Kitten, age 4. Please tell me someone remembers the Little Golden Book about Katie the Kitten… *sigh* If you haven’t, go ahead and buy a copy off eBay and read it! Anyway, Katie is our most petite kitty cat who stayed tiny as she matured. She is my pickiest eater and the one I was most surprised to find obsessed with the new food!
Next to try out Nutrish was our old man, Kitters, who we rescued after his owner passed away. Kitters is 11 years old and has hyperthyroidism, heart disease, and bad teeth that stemmed from living outdoors most of his life. He really enjoyed Nutrish and didn’t seem to have any problems crunching on the cat food. Another win!
Third to come up to the bowl was Cooper, our handsome 7-year old seal point ragdoll boy. Cooper was initially uncertain about Nutrish (creature of habit), but was addicted to the yummy crunches once he started eating! He did not want to share and was most upset when I brought in the next cat to test it out!
Tidbit was fourth in line to sample Nutrish Zero Grain and was quite happy to have the bowl to herself! Tidbit is my easy-going 6-year old kitty cat that I adopted after moving back to NC. She was the cutest little tabby kitten and is the only cat I have that willingly allows me to rub her belly! Tidbit is a food hog though and I needed to remove her from the bowl of Nutrish immediately after I got some shots of her. She ate almost half the bowl!
Rambo was second-to-last in sampling the Nutrish Zero Grain cat food. She is also 6 years old; I adopted her a few months after I got Tidbit. Rambo was abandoned by her mother at birth and has issues breathing. Her esophagus is slightly closed and she has kitty asthma. Rambo eats cat food extraordinarily fast, barely chewing, which can cause her to gag and sometimes vomit. (She’s not the brightest crayon in the box.) Rambo surprised me by really taking her time with the Nutrish Zero Grain, seeming to savor every bite. She has never done this before. I’m positive she loved the new food and didn’t want me to take it away!
Lastly we have my sixth cat, Agi Goyang-i (아기 고양이). She is my 3-year old obese Bengal who has gone against every stereotype of her breed. She is my least pickiest eater (as long as it’s food) and the heaviest of all my cats. Agi really enjoyed her taste test with Nutrish Zero Grain! Not once did she lift her cute face up out of that bowl. I believe this food is a real winner!
I am so glad to see that all six of my cats loved the Nutrish Zero Grain cat food! I like that it has a slightly lower price point than comparable cat foods, though I am still on the fence as to whether I can afford permanently switching my cats over to Nutrish. The zero-grain recipe is extremely healthy for all of my cats. It is also safe and beneficial to kittens and lactating mama cats as well! We had such a great time reviewing the food and I am glad that we got to sample another Rachael Ray Nutrish pet food.
Having reviewed both the dog and cat food now, I feel confident in saying that Rachael Ray Nutrish produces some of the highest quality pet food I have seen, and at a price that will not break the bank! I absolutely recommend Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain cat food for any cat owner seeking affordable, high-quality food for their loving purr-balls. A huge thank you to Nutrish and Influenster for allowing us to try the food out for ourselves to see if it’s a good fit!

Like your cats my cats loved it and we are switching them over permanently.
My 14 year old cat likes this food too. Nice review!
I received this product from Nutrish in exchange for my honest review through Influenster. My cat has an extremely sensitive stomach and this food hasn’t upset her stomach at all. She loves it! It’s natural ingredients are gentle on her stomach and I think not having the grains in it helps too.
It only has 32% animal protein and makes my 4 year old tabby male have more fur balls he eats almost anything the price is good but B.B. has 8% more animal protein and virtually no hair balls for one year and before u ask my cat gets all the water he can drink thanks Angie mason Ohio
