Grilled Hamburgers Topped with Goat Cheese & Garlicky Spinach Recipe
Grilled Hamburgers Topped with Goat Cheese & Garlicky Spinach
Hamburgers on the grill are always a treat at my house – but adding goat cheese, garlic, and spinach takes our sizzling burgers to a whole ‘nother level!
Start with your pound of ground beef – we used the 85/15 organic kind but you can use whatever kind you have on hand. The only things I had to go out to purchase were the goat cheese and fresh spinach. Start out by mixing your hamburger with a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and some salt and pepper. You can add some onion powder and/or garlic powder if you wish. Then mix in 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Make your hamburger mixture into 4 patties. Then take a pinch of meat out of the top of each patty and set those pinches of meat aside for a minute. Cut a tablespoon of butter in 4 pieces and put a piece of butter in the center of each hamburger patty.
Cover the butter pieces completely with your reserved hamburger meat.
Do you have your grill ready?
Grill your burgers for 6 minutes on one side, then flip them and do another 4 or 5 minutes on the other side. I like to use a meat thermometer – it should register 160 degrees for a safely cooked burger. Remove from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes or so while you get the rest of the ingredients ready to go.
Meanwhile, be preparing your spinach mixture. Chop your onions and sauté in some olive oil until they are translucent. Or take them a bit further and get them a little brown if you love that sweet taste! Have your 3 garlic cloves minced and add them at the last minute or so. You don’t want them to burn.
Add your spinach leaves to the onions & garlic and sauté until wilted down and cooked soft – this only takes a few minutes.
It is all I can do not to just EAT the spinach mixture and forget about the burgers!
Place a good dollop of goat cheese on top of each burger.
Top the goat cheese with 1/4 of the spinach/onion/garlic mixture and serve it up!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp olive oil + a couple more for the sauté pan
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 Onion, chopped
- 3 Cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small bag of fresh baby spinach leaves
- 5 oz pkg goat cheese
- – Optional: garlic powder and/or onion powder
Directions:
Mix your hamburger with 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and some salt and pepper to taste. Mix in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. You can also add some onion powder and/or garlic powder to the meat mixture if you prefer.
Divide your hamburger mixture into fourths, then make them into patties. Remove a pinch of meat out of the top of each patty and set those pinches of meat aside.
Cut 1 tablespoon of butter into 4 pieces, then put one of those pieces of butter in the center of each hamburger patty.
Replace the reserved pinch of hamburger meat to each patty, completely covering each piece of butter.
Grill your burgers for 6 minutes on one side, flip them, and cook for another 4 or 5 minutes on the other side. A meat thermometer should register 160 degrees. Remove from the grill and let the burgers rest for 5 minutes.
Sauté onions in 1-2 tbsp olive oil until they are translucent. Add garlic at the last minute or so. Don’t let the garlic burn.
Add your spinach leaves to the onions & garlic in the pan; sauté until wilted and soft.
Top each burger with a dollop of goat cheese, then place 1/4 of the spinach mixture on top of the goat cheese on each burger.
Enjoy!!
