February 2016 Litu Box
I was really impressed with my January Litu Box last month and was really looking forward to receiving my second month’s box! All of the items are fair trade, sustainable, and come from around the world. Heaven? I think so.
The Cost: $30.00 per month + $6.95 shipping
Monthly and 3-month subscriptions available (auto-renews)
The February package arrived in a standard USPS Priority Mail white bubble mailer and was absolutely stuffed full. I would have taken a picture, but I couldn’t resist ripping the mailer apart to see what was inside!
The first thing I saw was an adorable little Valentine’s Day baggie clipped together at the top with a mini clothespin! Inside I discovered three Yummy Earth lollipops and a seriously cute nibble of Equal Exchange chocolate. I will add these to our “special treat” container for Little G when he has been good and gets to pick something out!
I was surprised to see that the February Litu Box was not actually in a box! Since I knew to expect all packaging to be eco-friendly, this brown paper wrapping was actually a nice change for me. I love the strip of red checkered washi tape holding the package together.
First peek into the package and I spy another red and white Valentine’s Day treat bag! Little G is going to love me this month!
The information card lists all of the items included in the “box” along with pricing and brief descriptions. Like last month, it is printed on recycled brown paper.
Organic Fiji Fragrance Free Coconut Oil Soap (7 oz) – Value: $5.22
This handcrafted soap is made using 100% Certified Organic Coconut Oil. Coconut oil naturally contains high amounts of vitamins A, B, C, and E and has natural soothing properties which is perfect for sensitive skin. Fair trade, vegan, and cruelty-free. Made in USA.
I am not a “bar soap” kinda gal, but my in-laws are, so they will really enjoy having an all-natural moisturizing soap to use in the shower. It does not smell like anything, which is great for sensitive skin. This is a very large bar of soap and looks exactly like the coconut oil I use in the kitchen! I would imagine cutting it at least in half would help increase its lifespan.
The ingredients list is short. Like, one-ingredient-short. I’ve read a lot about the versatility of coconut oil, the best post coming from Wellness Mama (see it HERE) but have honestly only used it for cooking. We will see how well my in-laws like it!
Noah’s Ark Sheesham Wood Box with Dice – Value: $14.99
Handmade in India, this hinged box designed as a die and carved from sheesham wood contains five dice, each inlaid with brass pips. The box measures 2 inches square. Crafted by hand and fairly traded from India.
What a gorgeous wooden box and dice! This really makes me want to play five-dice Farkle. I haven’t thought about dice games in ages, so I’m actually really excited to see this in my package.
Eco Africa Papercraft Cascade Set of 3 Cards – Value: $17.50
This set of three handmade envelopes with folded handmade paper is in a sea tone color scheme. One of the envelopes features an ornamental design.
I’m not going to lie – I opened up these cards and instantly wanted to keep them all exactly as they are for the rest of my life. I love the color schemes and can’t imagine messing them up by writing all over them! All three cards are absolutely gorgeous, handmade, and profits go toward providing essential support for Zimbabwe women artisans and their families.
SMOLart Soapstone Heart – Value: $4.00
This cute, little soapstone heart is approximately 1 3/4 inches in size and is hand-carved or hand-painted by artisans who live in the rural village of Tabaka, Kenya. They can be used as a paperweight or decoration and is perfect as a gift.
What a beautiful little hand-painted heart! It feels very smooth and is so bright and colorful. SMOLart provides fair wages to their artisans, promotes fair trade, and helps manage resources sustainably. What an awesome group to get behind!
Kamaii Crocheted Face Scrubbies – Value: $8.00
Individually crocheted by hand, these set of 3 100% cotton scrubbies are an eco-friendly alternative to disposable make-up removers and can also be used as a mini-washcloth. Made in USA.
These are adorable and very eco-friendly. I am blessed to have a mom who loves crocheting, so I have an abundance of crocheted happiness. I will most likely be setting this aside for a future giveaway. 🙂
Matr Boomie Hand Block-Printed Handkerchiefs/Napkins – Value: $12.00
Hand block-printed by women artisans from Rajasthan, India, using traditional wooden blocks. Measures 16″ x 16″. Sales from these fair trade napkins fund community development and the livelihood of struggling artisans in the area. Machine wash with like colors, gentle cycle.
I love these cloth napkins!! The patterns and colors are stunning and my in-laws loved receiving them as a gift when we visited yesterday!
Assorted Snacks (both baggies) – Value: $7.00?
More snacks!! We received two more Yummy Earth lollies, three individual packs of Annie’s bunny fruit snacks, one Blueberry Muffin flavored Larabar, and four individual Gin-Gin’s ginger candies in assorted flavors. What a haul of sweet treats!!
My Thoughts
February 2016 Litu Box Total Value: $68.71
This is my second Litu Box and I think I love this one even more than last month’s box! I am coveting the soapstone heart and the handmade cards and managed to give a couple items to my in-laws (always keep the in-laws happy…) PLUS Little G got some great sweet treats too!
I purchased this box for $36.95 total and received almost twice the value. Though I would not normally spend this much money on “fun” items for myself, I can definitely see this as a great subscription to give as a gift. I am also going to keep this box in my mind for when I walk past Ten Thousand Villages and want to pretty much buy everything in the shop. You can save yourself money while still supporting amazing communities from around the world by simply subscribing to Litu Box instead!!
