February 2016 Lit-Cube
Perhaps I should explain myself a little bit. I have never purchased a book or bookish subscription box for myself before. (I did however purchase a Bookroo box for Little G in November, which he loved unconditionally!) Under normal circumstances I am pretty real with myself and recognize that I should not be spending money on books I don’t have time to read… but I saw the February Lit-Cube spoiler on Facebook and could not stop myself from signing up and purchasing this box!
The Cost: $29.99 monthly + $4.99 s/h to US ($14.99 s/h to Canada)
Theme: Classic Romance
Think: Jane Austen and Emily Brontë
First peek! (I had a little help from Rambo.) I love the purple tissue paper!
The high-gloss info card is double-sided and provides brief descriptions, values, and links to the vendors’ websites, when available.
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen – Value: $14.99
This 2016 publication was printed exclusively by and for Lit-Cube! The front cover was designed by Najla Qamber Designs and I just adore the minimalist look of the paperback. I’m not going to lie, I was really, really hoping this book would be in the box and am so giddy to have received a copy! I am a bit obsessed with Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice.
Since I now have absolutely no time to read my own books, I have watched the movie starring Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyn more times than I’d like to admit. I absolutely love this iconic story and feel the film is a wonderful adaptation with a phenomenal soundtrack. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it!
Jack Valley Lavender Lemon Truffles – Value: $3.99
Jack Valley Truffles is an Etsy shop located in Lake Geneva, WI. All truffles are hand-crafted in small batches using consciously sourced ingredients. Subscribers received a beautiful and extremely well-packaged box containing two perfect lavender lemon truffles.
The lavender lemon truffles are made with only six ingredients: white chocolate, organic heavy cream, organic lemon oil, organic sunflower oil, lavender oil, and lavender. That is amazing to me.
I am very, very spoiled living in Asheville, NC… we have a local chocolate shop called The Chocolate Fetish that has the most decadent truffles I have ever eaten in my life. It is extremely hard to convince me there are fantastic truffles made outside of this shop and yet, Jack Valley did it. These lavender lemon truffles have truly made me “completely and perfectly and incandescently happy.” These babies are delicious and I absolutely did not share them with anyone. Now I must tell everyone to visit the Jack Valley Truffles Etsy shop immediately and use discount code: LITCUBELOVE to get 10% off your order! (Do it now!)
Four Sisters Fictional Fragrances (Elizabeth Bennet) – Value: $6.00
Four Sisters Fiction Fragrances is an Etsy shop run by… four sisters! These ladies love experimenting with scents and love their books! I like the fun packaging but am always wary of receiving perfume in subscription boxes. This is a very fun idea to create perfumes around books!
The Elizabeth Bennet fragrance is “a light floral perfume with hints of freshly picked strawberries.” I am a huge fan of roll-on perfumes, so that was a win, however I did not personally enjoy the sweet, sugary scent on my skin. Perfumes are also very hard for me to gift since scents are incredibly specific to your personal preference and how it reacts to your own unique body chemistry. It’s still cute though!
Exclusive Chick-Lit Designs Wallet (Wuthering Heights) – Value: $44.99
Chick-Lit Designs is an Etsy shop located in Gilbert, AZ. It is run by a first-generation American named Michelle Wolett. She has such an inspirational story behind her shop (see it HERE) and all of her shop items are focused on bringing books back into this technological era. Michelle collaborated with Lit-Cube to create these exclusive wallets that are printed to look like a copy of Emily Brontë’s sole novel, Wuthering Heights.
I mean, c’mon. How cool is this???
There are plenty of credit car slots and compartments to store cash, receipts, free coffee punch cards… I am still using my cat wallet from my very first CatLadyBox, but I am certain to switch it up to this one just so I can show it off for a while!!
Happy Hello Co. Magnetic Bookmarks (Pride & Prejudice) – Value: $4.99
Happy Hello Co is an Etsy shop located in Ontario, Canada focusing on being downright adorable. These magnetic bookmarks were exclusively designed for Lit-Cube and depict Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. *swoon*
Do you want to see something cute?
Look at the back of the bookmarks! I mean, you can’t get cuter than this, right? These will work perfectly in my planner. I am excited!
Pride & Prejudice 5×7 Art Print – Value: $5.99
Jonathan and I recently converted our spare bedroom into my home office (yay!) and in the process found two beautiful all-glass picture frames. The squatty one is reserved for my CatLadyBox art postcards, but the taller one sat empty for EVER. This quote print is just the right size and will look uh-mazing on my desk!! I just love this!
My Thoughts
February 2016 Lit-Cube Total Value: $80.95
I am infatuated with this box. My bengal, Agi, is also infatuated with it (see above). Yes, I spent $35 to buy a book-things box for my current non-book-things lifestyle but I just can’t resist a Jane Austen-themed anything. Lit-Cube did a great job curating the Classic Romance box and I love seeing all of the small businesses represented here.
Lit-Cube releases theme spoilers for each upcoming month which really makes this subscription service stand out from the crowd. To me, $35 feels like a significant amount of moolah so I need to be pretty sure the genre is in my realm of fandom to justify the cost to my husband…
I love and will cherish pretty much everything here, except the perfume which unfortunately just did not work for me. I received a plethora of exclusive items, not to mention heaps of cuteness, deliciousness, and bookishness… this box felt like it was curated just for my-secret-fangirl-self and I couldn’t be happier!
