February 2016 Chococurb Box Review
Oh, pity the life of a poor blogger! To have to throw myself on a box of great chocolates so I can tell you all about it! This is a review of the February 2016 Chococurb box.
The February 2016 Chococurb Box was my first, but it won’t be my last. Chococurb is a monthly gourmet chocolate subscription box with a choice of two size boxes. The regular Chococurb has “five to seven personally selected, extraordinary chocolate treats.” The cost of this box is $35/month, $99 for a 3 month subscription or $180 for a 6 month subscription.
On a budget? You can try it out with the Chococurb Mini, a box with three chocolates. This smaller box has a smaller price: $20/month, $57 for a 3 month subscription or $108 for a 6 month subscription.
After you decide on the size of the box, you complete a Chocolate Profile so Chococurb can send you the kind of chocolate you love to eat. Don’t like dark chocolate? White chocolate? You won’t receive any in your box. That’s a great plus since no one likes to be disappointed when they open their box of delicious chocolates!
Popbar Hot Chocolate on a Stick ($2.99)
This is a chocolate bar on a stick that you pop into steamy milk to make your own hot chocolate, made with a premium blend of the finest all natural chocolates. Mine was milk chocolate but it also comes in dark chocolate and vanilla chocolate.
Evolve Pacific Northwest Truffles ($6)
This was a box containing two truffles – Cherry Coffee Hazelnut & Blueberry Cardamom. These are small batch-made using local organic spices and flavors and fair-trade, non-gmo chocolate. Their Pacific Northwest collection uses locally sourced coffee, nuts, smoked sea salt, fresh berries & fruits. These were very good dark chocolate but not as sweet as we would have liked.
Amedei Toscano Red Extra 70% 1.75 oz bar ($8.20)
This chocolate bar is crafted in Tuscany and is infused with hand-dried cherries, strawberries and raspberries. It is really a flavor explosion in your mouth, as you taste the wonderful chocolate along with the flavors of each fruit in every bite.
Theo Coconut Bites Coconut Mint bar 1.3 oz ($2.29)
These are really delicious! I wasn’t sure about coconut and mint with my milk chocolate but I liked it a lot. The package has 2 bite-sized pieces in it, all organic & fair trade, made in Seattle.
Menakao Madagascar Chocolate Milk Chocolate Hazelnut bar 2.29 oz ($7.99)
This is a creamy milk chocolate bar with hints of caramel and with crunchy hazelnuts. It is made in Madaagascar using their aromatic cocoa beans. I proclaim it to be excellent!
Seattle Chocolates Birthday Cake Batter piece in foil ($1)
Last but certainly not least, this is a small piece of the candy bar wrapped in foil. I would love to have a bag of these little treats! They taste like vanilla frosted yellow cake with confetti pieces mixed into the milk chocolate. Definitely the sweetest piece of candy in the box this month and I was just going to take one bite but ended up eating it all!
The February 2016 Chococurb box value came to a little over $27 by my calculations, so it ran less than the cost of the box. If you had to pay for shipping, it would be pretty much right on target, so I think it was fair but not a wonderful deal. If they had sent a full size bar of the Seattle Chocolates Birthday Cake Batter piece (my favorite in this box!), the value price would have been more in line with the box price. I liked all of the chocolates that were selected for me in the February 2016 Chococurb box, so I would say that the Chocolate Profile does work. Can’t wait for the March box to arrive!
The Homespun Chics paid for this subscription. All opinions are 100% our own.
Oh this is the box for me!! Yummo!! Love chocolate!! its definitely my weakness and is stashed all over my house lol!!
Chocolate every month? Yes, I could deal with that.
I would love to try the Menakao Madagascar Chocolate Milk Chocolate Hazelnut bar. So many tasty things in here! Yum! 🙂
A chocolate box…sounds delicious and fun. I really like the idea of the two sizes. That hot chocolate sounds good to try and I am intrigued by the idea of coconut and mint together.
