The Edison in Disney Springs Restaurant Review
The Edison in Disney Springs
Restaurant Review
The Edison on The Landing in Disney Springs (Orlando, FL) opened in January 2018 and we visited on a Friday evening around 4:30 PM, about 3 weeks after they opened. The restaurant has an Industrial Gothic theme with lavish decor that has all the hallmarks of Steampunk to our eyes. The building is re-imagined from an abandoned power plant and all the decor is authentic, not recreated by the Disney Imagineers.
The Edison is large and covers two floors, with 3 unique bar areas and a number of dining areas that have old (silent) movies projected onto the bare walls. There are more secluded nooks for quiet conversation scattered around plus outdoor dining both in back overlooking the lake and in front by the pedestrian walkway.
The hostesses at the front desk are all dressed in beautiful black flapper-style outfits and we did see one lady who was totally done up in steampunk who flitted by and was gone (wish I had gotten a photo!), but it was only late afternoon when we visited. After 10 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays The Edison has a $10 a cover charge and transforms into an adult-only (21 and up) entertainment venue with an aerialist act, live music, variety acts, and a DJ.
We did not have a reservation and thought it would not be necessary for late afternoon. And although the restaurant was almost empty (I counted 21 empty tables on the top floor alone!) we were required to wait 20 minutes until they found a seat for us, on the bottom floor away from the main dining area on the end table right next to the waitress station.
This is the entire dinner menu. Dinner entree prices run $22 – $38, not too bad by Disney standards but fairly high by every day restaurant standards. We had been at Disney for about 6 weeks at this point so it was about what we were used to. They did take our Tables in Wonderland card, saving us 20%.
My glass of chardonnay was a chilled tasty start, and we decided we couldn’t miss trying The Edison’s signature “Clothesline Candied Bacon” appetizer. Served with a sprig of fennel, pickles, and preserves, the bacon was a divine splurge – how could it possibly not be delicious!!
Even though the menu is rather limited, we did not have any problem finding some very tasty main courses to try. My husband had the bacon wrapped meatloaf with spicy ketchup glaze and mashed potatoes. He thought it was wonderful, especially since the glaze was really a glaze and did not taste like ketchup poured out of a bottle! It was served with multicolored roasted carrots.
I had the Scottish Salmon on the recommendation of our really helpful and sweet waitress and it was just as tender and tasty as she described it to be. It was served with artichoke puree (LOVED) and fennel/green apple slaw that was unfortunately a bit dry.
We were hoping that The Edison would open while we were staying at Disney this year and I was glad to have the chance to dine there. I still don’t understand the wait time and the decision to put us way out of the way (I promise we were both behaving ourselves!!) but we did have good service once we were seated and the food was very good. With the limited menu I don’t think it would be a good family with children experience, but it would be great for date night or a quiet dinner alone.
wow the palace os simply nice and amazing food too. great ambiance and nice place.
Flapper outfits sound awesome but I suppose you can’t twke pictures of the wait staff. 🙂 Well that’s a little frustrating with the seating. The salmon looks good! I appreciate you pointing out the negative things too, it helps me get a good idea of what the experience was like.
We haven’t been to Disney in movie. My hubby is a real science fan and would love to check this place out.
This looks fantastic. We are planning a trip there in Sept.
