The Homespun Chics received this box for review purposes. All opinions are 100% our own.
Our December 2016 TokyoTreat box arrived safely all the way from Japan with no breakage. I love the colorful yellow box and, as you can see, it was absolutely stuffed with treats!
The product information booklet starts the opposite way of what we are used to here in our English-speaking culture. The front of the book is where we expect the back to be.
The booklet tells you what treats are in each size box. This is very helpful as most of the packages are written in Japanese. You can see from the page that they start with the Small box, add more to the Regular box, and then add even more to the Premium box.
This review is for the Premium box.
The booklet includes directions to make the DIY snack that was in our box.
Christmas Edition Chocolate Umaibo & Christmas Edition Corn Potage Umaibo These are corn puff snacks. The smaller packages are chocolate flavored and the larger packages have a savory (corn) flavor.
Cola Ramun Candy – a cola flavor of this Japanese snack with a powdery texture.
Christmas Edition White Milk Caramel Corn – a white milk flavored caramel corn enhanced with heavy cream.
Christmas Edition Shimi Choco Corn – a corn puff snack soaked in chocolate.
Mini Choco Chips – These are bite-size chocolate chip cookies, just like the Western ones.
Bireley’s Soft Candy – Soft, juicy candies in peach, orange, apple, and grape.
Cocoa Flavor Chocobi Ramune – Individually wrapped star-shaped candies with added vitamin D.
Christmas Fugashi – Traditional Japanese snack made from gluten, light and airy but soaked in a brown sugar solution.
Hi Milk Chocolate Cubie – Milk chocolate pieces with a special coating so they don’t melt in your hand.
Strawberry Roll Candy – These are Japanese strawberry fruit roll ups.
Komekko Scallop Flavor – Non-fried rice crackers that are scallop flavored. I used to buy the shrimp flavored ones for Sarah when she was a child.
Tomato Pretz – These are crunchy, savory tomato-flavored pretzel snack.
Puchi Puchi Art Gummy DIY
A grape soda flavored snack that you can design on your own or use the stencil provided. The bag contains bags of colors, pipettes, and the candy base. Full page directions are in the product information booklet. Looks like fun!
Cream Stew Ramune
A savory stew flavored carbonated drink. Ramune is mostly known for a lemon-lime drink but now has branched out to all kinds of flavors like wasabi, chocolate, ginseng, curry, watermelon and chocolate and kimchi.
Mokeke With Ball Chain
A cute alien with long arms from the planet Mokekenoke. It has a chain so you can attach it to your bag or belt loop. Or even put it on your Christmas tree! They come in 24 different designs and are a favorite with the Japanese youth.
The December 2016 TokyoTreat box contained 18 treat items -some sweet, some savory, a drink, a DIY, and a fuzzy little creature! It is so fun to try out new foods and this box was full to the brim with all new things! I really liked TokyoTreat and I think it is a great box to explore for family snacks.
Have you tried the TokyoTreat box?
Wow!! What a fully loaded snack box!! So many fun treats!! And such a cute alien!!
WOW! I have to admit that it is really interesting reading about some of Japan’s snacks. The names of some of these snacks do not sound appetizing! I mean non-fried rice crackers that are scallop flavored. Not a lot of kids Ben like fish! Thanks for this learning info!
I received a similar box just recently. We had fun tasting each of the treats, though we definitely like some more than others. My box also had a cute stuffed animal key chain! They really do stuff the boxes to the rim with snacks!
That would be a fun treat.
My daughters boyfriend actually gets this box delivered to him! He loves learning about the Japanese and their traditions and products, he even speaks Japanese which is super cool!
He loves this box and I am sure anyone else would, too.
