Recently, I have been making plans to revamp my home office to be a bit more feng shui and less like a tornado came through. My home office needs to be a place that encourages creativity, discipline and success. Believe it or not, your surroundings have a great impact on how you think and what you do.
Jonathan and I are making huge plans to buy a new house next year and one of the biggest requirements for me is to have an office space that works for teaching violin and working on the blog. It is important to me to create a well-balanced atmosphere; a place where both my students and myself will feel inspired and successful.
The idea of using feng shui to balance my environment came from when I was pregnant with Little G. I redecorated my office at the brewery to be more inviting and calming by using tranquil colors on the walls and rugs, reducing the clutter on my desk, and hanging images that inspired me daily. The goal was to enhance the flow of qi (chi) and create a positive environment that promoted health and happiness.
My new office space is going to incorporate all of the feng shui elements: wood, earth, metal, fire, and water. Since I don’t know where we are moving yet, or what my new office space will be, I am concentrating on the different elements that I will bring into the space, rather than how I will arrange my office.
Choosing appropriate artwork for the office is extremely important. Artwork has the ability to inspire and motivate you to reach your goals and accomplishments. I knew I needed to find two specific pieces of art to display in my office:
- Mountain: The mountain is static and stable, representing power and support. This is an earth element that symbolizes reaching goals, succeeding, ascension, and wisdom. The mountain should be placed on the wall behind your desk to bring prosperity and stability.
- Waterfall: Water is one of the most powerful elements, transforming into ice, steam and back to water again. Water symbolizes the flow of money and career. Flowing water allows us to let go of what we don’t need. Still water represents new beginnings and renewed strength. The water element should be placed in front of the desk or primary work area where it is able to be seen when ever you look up.
Since I knew what I wanted to display, it was time to go shopping! I searched several stores to find prints that would work but always left extremely discouraged. Everything I found either wasn’t right for what I needed OR was way too expensive. Fortunately, I was contacted by Canvas Factory last month to try out their canvas art service and found exactly what I needed!!
I explored the Canvas Factory website (found HERE) and discovered an incredible amount of customization features. Not only were there an insane amount of sizes offered, but the prices are unbeatable! I chose the 20″x16″ option.
Canvas Factory offers more than canvas prints! There are options for acrylic glass and aluminum too!
You can choose to upload your own picture or use one of the thousands available on their site. There was an entire selection of landscape art to choose from and I spent two hours exploring all of the options before settling on a gorgeous waterfall that took my breath away.
After choosing my photo, I was able to rotate and zoom the image to fit into the print size that I chose. The picture was slightly larger than my print size, so I needed to adjust the image a few different times to make it fit perfectly.
Next task was choosing a wrap style for my print. I chose to do a Gallery Wrap, where the image continues around the edge of the frame. After selecting this option, I did have to slightly adjust my image zoom again to ensure I was still able to capture the sun while having enough image to fully wrap around the sides.
I opted not to create an effect on the print, since I chose an image from their media library rather than using a portrait from my own personal photographs. This is a really neat option though!
After completing my order, I immediately received an email notification telling me my order was being processed. I was really impressed with the huge savings I received just from buying through Canvas Factory rather than at a store!
It took 20 days to receive my order from the time I first purchased my print. Good to know: The prints are created in China (almost immediately after ordering) but then need to go through customs before being cleared for delivery within the U.S. I was shocked at first, but then realized that literally all of the prints I saw at my local stores were also made in China, only theirs were marked up in price sometimes triple the cost of my Canvas Factory print!
The package arrived without a scratch!
The canvas print was protected by a layer of bubble wrap…
with plastic wrap with cardboard corners underneath.
I was pleased to see a picture hanger was already attached!
The cardboard corners were secured into the canvas using staples, which were a little difficult to get out initially.
Here’s what it looks like with the staples removed. I especially like how the back of the canvas is lined with black felt to help protect the walls from getting scratched!
The Gallery Wrap looks beautiful!
Voila!
I love my new art piece and think it will look gorgeous in my new office. I was really surprised with how much the color popped. The print is as breathtaking in person as it was on the computer screen! I didn’t know what to expect from the experience but am very happy with the entire process. I will most likely be purchasing my mountain print from Canvas Factory as well. I found so many amazing images, it was really hard to choose just one!
If I had to make a gripe, it would be that there was no mention of a delay in shipping times before placing an order. With the Christmas season approaching, it would be helpful to know that you could be waiting almost an entire month to receive your print before placing your order! All in all, the online ordering service was easy and ridiculously customizable and the end result was a lovely print that cost far less than it appears!
