Barkbox October 2015 Review
Barkbox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. This was our first time to try it out but the reviews I had read were all positive so I expected good things. The dogs and I were not disappointed! My border collies are not fussy but they do have food and toy issues. Rocket has a pretty bad chicken allergy and both boys are REALLY tough on toys. Any stuffed thing is a one minute toy and even the ones promoted for serious chewers never last too long. So I was quite curious to see what we would receive and how well it was matched to my dogs.
The subscription plans available for the Barkbox range from 1 to 12 months. A one month plan is $29 per month, but we went with the three month plan as it breaks down to $24 per month and I was sure that the guys would enjoy getting a box each month for awhile. The very best deal is the 12 month plan that comes to $19 each month. You also can choose small, medium or large depending on the size of you dog. We chose the medium size for our border collies. And fortunately they ask about food allergies. Each box comes with treats, toys and an occasional hygiene item. Our box had 2 containers of treats, one individual treat and 2 toys.
The No Grainers NYC Jerky Bites by Nootie (5 oz) were roasted duck recipe, grain and gluten free, made in Utah. I was pleased with this bag of treats as I will not give my dogs anything from China. Ever. Plus it was not chicken, the ubiquitous ingredient in so many pet items. The treats are small cubes just right for a reward after a twirl, down or come front. I could not find these exact ones when I researched pricing but similar ones average about $10.
Bacon Barkers Dog Treats by Healthy Dogma (5 oz) were also a product of the USA. I looked for these online and the average pricing is around $5.50. Made of bacon and vegetables, they contained no chicken hidden down in the ingredients list. A little larger than the jerky bites, they will make a good nighttime “go crate” treat.
The Crunchy Duck Chew by Etta Says (7 inch) will have to be cut in half here to share between the boys. Nothing on the label says where it was made, but I researched and found that they are made in the USA. A mixture of duck feet and rawhide, these retail for about $1.
The pretzel dog toy seems sturdy and sells on their website for $12. The last item was a medium Lady Liberty ball with cloth dangles that sell on their website for $9. This will require supervised play to make it last.
So the total value of the box we received came to just about $37.50, a very good deal for the $24 cost. I love seeing my dogs so happy but I also LOVE a great value and this box qualifies for both. The treats and toys were just right for both of them. Jed and Rocket loved everything they received! I can’t wait until the November box arrives!
I like that they ask about food allergies and send stuff made in USA.
My dog would just love these boxes. I tried to win from several blogs but haven’t yet. Fingers still crossed , though!
