April 2016 My Texas Market Box Review
April 2016 My Texas Market Box
My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-6 carefully selected products from Texas farmers’ markets and local businesses. The small-batch artisan items fit a monthly theme and could be anything from foods, snacks, teas, candles, beauty products, crafts or any other thing you might find in a Texas farmers’ market. Their purpose is to expose customers to new products and companies while supporting local artisan businesses. Subscription costs are:
- 1 month – $35
- 3 months – $100
- 6 months – $195
Subscription prices do not include shipping or any applicable taxes. They do promise that the value of each box will be at least $35 -$40 but to not expect that they will send a hugely underpriced box of items. You can cancel at any time or just skip a month if you wish. And if you want to purchase more of something or add to your box, they have an online market with lots of things to choose from.
The Homespun Chics received this box for review purposes. All opinions are 100% our own.
The April 2016 My Texas Market box was inspired by
“the beautiful bluebonnets lining our Texas highways, the baskets of sweet berries filling the famers’ markets, and the sights and smells of springtime in the Lone Star State.”
Just opening the box is a joy! There is springtime in the multi-hued green leaves of the tissue paper packaging and the scents of the contents reaching your nose as you open the wrappings. Everything was well packaged as usual and there was no breakage. Their detailed product information card is on the back of a beautiful collage of Texas springtime images. I love reading about the companies that produce the items in each box as well the backstory and use of each product!
Kuhdoo Soap Company – Bluebonnet Soap ($6)
Ahhh! I just love this! “Natural Handcrafted Soap made with love and ingredients you can pronounce in Austin, Texas.” No chemicals to absorb into your skin and the ingredients are locally sourced organic goats milk, shea butter, avocado oil and coconut oil plus raw honey and oatmeal. And it smells like Texas Bluebonnets! I put this soap on my bathroom soap dish and the room smells wonderful!
Brenham Kitchens – Dried Strawberries 8 oz ($10)
These little jewels are dried strawberries and organic sugar. Nothing else. They are delicious and taste just like spring should taste! Brenham Kitchens makes all kinds of other gourmet sauces, salsas, dried fruits and sweets with the same kind of natural, minimal ingredients and these can be found in Texas farmers’ markets if you happen to be lucky enough to visit one!
Mind Your Own Beeswax Candle Co. – Medium Beehive Candle 3.5 oz ($8)
I love candles and especially beeswax candles! This one is 100% pure and sourced from a very few select US farms. It will burn for about 30 hours and, as a pure beeswax candle, will possibly help cleanse the air in your room of dust, odors, toxins, pollens and molds. Certainly worth a try, even if you weren’t a candle lover like myself.
Texas Hill Country Olive Co. – Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar 100 ml. ($6)
This is a great tasting vinegar made by infusing Texas blackberries with balsamic from Modena, Italy. The company has the only certified organic orchard in the state and even offers tours. My Texas Market sent some of their olive oil in a box several months ago and it was one of the best I have tasted. And this month brings another winner from the same company!
Otavea – Strawberry Sugar Scrub 4 oz ($10)
This is a tiny sugar granule face and body scrub made with cold pressed organic oils, pure cane sugar and strawberries. And it smells good enough to eat! It also has Vitamin A to hydrate and protect your skin against free radicals. If you love to use a sugar scrub, you will love this one!
The value of the items in this sweet spring box comes to $40, more than the cost of the box and within the expected value range. The curation fits the theme perfectly and the April 2016 My Texas Market box is truly like having a Texas farmers’ market package up a lovely springtime gift and send it to your house! Looking for a Mother’s Day gift to send to someone special? This box would be perfect and it is still available on their website!!
Makes me miss Texas (just a very little bit). Looks like nice things in the box.
This box is awesome! You are right, it really would make a nice gift. I love the dried strawberries and the beehive candle.

As a Texan, I love that all of these products are from local areas in Texas. I would really like to try the Bluebonnet Soap. It sounds lovely!
