Apple Bubble-Up Bake
Apple Bubble-Up Bake
It’s fall and the apples are plentiful. After putting another big bagful in the refrigerator I just had to try this yummy apple bake recipe! I adapted it just a bit from that fun cooking site www.delish.com and it was a little more work than some but a lot easier than a pie. No matter, I always feel a bit rushed when I’m peeling apples and waiting for them to turn brown on me (… should I sprinkle with lemon juice? …will it affect the taste?) And when it was toasty brown and smelling like a bit of heaven I was wishing I had some vanilla ice cream to go with. Because this recipe absolutely screams for vanilla ice cream! I think this is a recipe that everyone in your family will love!!
Just a note – I used one can of Pillsbury Grands biscuits and cut them into quarters. If you choose regular size biscuits get 2 cans and cut each biscuit in half.

Apple Bubble-Up Bake
Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 4 apples, peeled & sliced into wedges
- 1/2 cup apple juice or cider
Caramel Sauce
- 1 stick butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/4 cup apple juice or cider
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp reserved apple drippings from filling
Biscuit Balls
- 1 tube large refrigerated biscuits I used Pillsbury Grands
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
-
Melt butter in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add cinnamon & apples, cook for 2-3 minutes. Add apple juice & simmer about 5 more minutes, until apples have softened. Remove apples to a 13" X 9" baking dish, reserving 2 tbsp of the drippings.
Caramel Sauce
-
Melt stick of butter in medium saucepan. Add flour & whisk to form a paste. Then add apple juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, & the drippings from the apple filling. Stir & bring to a simmer, cooking about 3-4 minutes until it forms a dark brown sauce thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Cinnamon-Sugar Biscuits
-
Cut biscuits into quarters & roll them into little balls. Combine with cinnamon & sugar, coating them evenly.
Finish
-
Drop the biscuit balls onto the apple filling in the baking dish. Pour the caramel sauce on top, lightly stirring to mix. Bake 20-25 minutes until the biscuits have baked to a puffy golden brown.
